There are tax advantages for Civil Partnerships. Income Tax If one partner is higher rate and the other basic then consider if the income can be put into the name of the lower taxed partner. If the income is all from PAYE earnings then nothing can be done. However, if there is some investment income then the savings accounts could be put into joint names or solely in the name of the other partner. If you are self employed or you run your own limited company then there could be advantages in bringing in your partner as a business partner or shareholder. Note that you should take expert advice as there are implications which are beyond the scope of this short article.
Capital Gains Tax Individuals have an annual capital gains exemption of ÂŁ10100 currently. So, for example, if one partner owns an investment property and is considering selling which would result in a gain then it would make sense to transfer into joint names as this doubles the exemption.
