The inspiration for the fleeing criminal theme was the attempted assassination of Belzu on September 6, 1850. DE STBRE / DE 1850 in exergue (exact variety with long exergue lines but no period after date, hence a mule of Burnett 48A1 for obverse and 48B1 for reverse).
