ABOUT CYBERSECURITY You are living at an unprecedented inflection point in the course of technological development. The world has fully adopted the most transformational technology in its history before figuring how to deal with its inherent - and very real - risks. The Internet is revolutionizing the world. We are totally dependent on it. But, it wasn’t designed with security in mind. We have traded our personal security for convenience.

1 “Interactive Map.” Cyberseek. NICE, a program of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the U.S. Department of Commerce, June 2016. Web. April 2017. <cyberseek.org/ heatmap.html>.

That’s where cybersecurity comes in. This relatively new, exploding industry is on a mission to secure a world that suddenly finds itself running on the Internet, and thereby enable the future potential of technology itself. It’s no wonder there are 350,000 cybersecurity job openings in the US today, with compensation levels well above traditional IT.1

CERTIFICATIONS* 1 BurningGlass, Job Market Intelligence: Cybersecurity Jobs, 2015.

Optionally, you can obtain industry standard certifications through SecureSet courses (when available) or through one of our certification partners. In today’s marketplace, cybersecurity certifications are often required by employers as a way to signify that a potential employee possesses a certain stock of knowledge. While almost everyone agrees that certifications are not a great metric of how skilled a candidate is, they are still an important part of a student’s portfolio when entering the market. For this reason, we recommend that our immersive students take and pass the following optional certifications. (Market rates for the CISSP and Security+ certifications outside of the Academy are about $ 6,000; the cost to take these exams and become certified at the Academy is $ 5,000 . It is worth noting that in 2014 , U.S. employers paid security employees with these two certifications about $25,000 more per year than security employees without them.)1

CSA+ Taught by our CompTIA authorized Academy instructors, our CSA+ training provides a comprehensive review of behavioral analytics skills to identify and combat malware and advanced persistent threats (APTs), resulting in better threat visibility across a broad attack surface by focusing on network behavior, including an organization’s interior network. Our unique approach to CSA+ certification is designed to optimize outcomes for a career in cybersecurity analysis and leadership.

CAREER SERVICES Unlike some in-demand jobs that pay well but aren’t that interesting, cybersecurity is an exciting and ever-evolving field. Think about how often your virus protection sends an update. That’s because the minute the good guys solve one problem, the bad guys come up with another virus, a different worm or the latest phishing scheme. Today, nearly every industry needs cybersecurity; so qualified candidates have an opportunity to match their interests to their position. Outdoor enthusiast? Retail giant REI has security threat engineers on staff—and you get great discounts on backpacks and hiking boots! Passion for helping people? The Mayo Clinic employs cybersecurity professionals. Like finance? Cybersecurity positions are among the most frequent openings posted by Deloitte. Chances are, you’ll be able to find a position that not only pays well, but is also challenging, rewarding and gives you a chance to work in an area you’re interested in. The Academy offers career services for all students as an integral part of our curriculum. The Academy partners with dozens of companies looking for great talent. In addition to enabling and facilitating recruiting activities by potential employers, we provide opportunities for students to interact with, and get a head start at interviewing with, these partner companies as part of the classroom experience. UPCOMING SESSIONS Upcoming immersives sessions and calendars showing beginning and ending dates of enrollment periods, deadlines, programs, sessions and breaks are found on on the following spread of this catalog. They can also be viewed at <secureset.com/denver> or <secureset.com/colorado-springs>.

FULL-TIME SCHEDULE The SecureSet full-time programs are in session 5-days per week for 12 or 20 weeks (depending on the program) with optional lab time on Saturdays. They employ a unique instructional architecture that maximizes instructor interaction and laboratories. These lab times allow the students to engage in hands-on learning on the topics they receive during lecture portions of the class. Most classes will meet twice a week. Each class is half a day in length with a lunch break between classes. Throughout the SecureSet programs, students will progress through longer “foundational courses concurrent with shorter domain specific topics. Most full-time students find it to be in their best interest, to be committed full-time to their studies.

PART-TIME SCHEDULE The SecureSet part-time immersive programs employ an alternative instructional architecture in order to give full-time employed individuals the opportunity to take advantage of our immersives. The part-time program instruction consists of four 9-week quarters. Each quarter, instruction takes place on two evenings a week with required applied learning (through labs) taking place on Saturdays. This structure allows students to achieve the same level of learning as the Full Time programs over the four quarters they are enrolled.

FAQ

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

ACADEMY CATALOG | 95

ADMISSIONS

WHAT ARE THE ADMISSIONS CRITERIA FOR THE SECURESET IMMERSIVE PROGRAMS? While pre-existing technical and analytical skills will always help with concept comprehension, there is no absolute criteria for Program eligibility. We encourage all potential students with a desire to pursue a career in cybersecurity to apply. The work you put in will be the ultimate deciding factor in your level of success at the Academy.

HOW DOES THE ADMISSION PROCESS WORK? The immersive admissions process can take about one to three weeks to complete. It consists of an electronic application and one to two academic counseling sessions (as needed). The academic counseling sessions are intended to give us a solid understanding of your technical abilities and/or analytical abilities as well as your overall goals for the program.

DO I HAVE TO HAVE EXPERIENCE (WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW) BEFORE I APPLY FOR SECURESET IMMERSIVES? In reviewing your background, we will be looking for a basic working knowledge in networking and/or programming (for CORE and PATH Engineering applicants) and analytical abilities (for HUNT and PATH Analytics applicants).

96 | ACADEMY CATALOG

HOW DO I SECURE MY SPOT IN AN IMMERSIVE? Upon acceptance into the SecureSet immersive programs, your initial cash deposit of $500 and your signed enrollment documents will secure your seat. As an accepted student of a SecureSet Full Time program, the balance of your tuition is due by the 75% completion point of your program. As an accepted student of a SecureSet Part-time program, the balance of your tuition is due by the end of the third quarter. Please see the tuition policy found in the Academic Policies section of this catalog. You can pay out of pocket or take advantage of several tuition assistance options.

HOW DO I APPLY TO SECURESET IMMERSIVES? Go to <secureset.com/apply-now> where you will find the SecureSet Immersive Programs Application. Upon completing and submitting the Application, your Application will begin the review process. The next step will be an academic counseling session with an Academy Lead Instructor. The application process usually takes one to three weeks.

WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY ACADEMIC COUNSELING SESSION? Once you have applied you will receive a call or email from an Admissions Specialist inviting you to an academic counseling session and letting you know what to expect during the Admissions process.

ACADEMY CATALOG | 97

DO YOU ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN THE SECURESET IMMERSIVE PROGRAMS? Yes. We do accept some international students into our program.

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE TO APPLY TO SECURESET IMMERSIVE PROGRAMS? You must complete the SecureSet immersive programs application process two weeks in advance of the start date for the immersive cohort in which you would like to enroll. Full Time and Part Time immersive sessions start throughout the year. Our admissions process allows prospective students to apply and be admitted on a rolling basis.

98 | ACADEMY CATALOG

CAREERS

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO FIND A JOB AFTER COMPLETING A SECURESET IMMERSIVE PROGRAM? On average, we have seen most, if not all, of our students find employment within three months of graduation. We have a number of employer partners standing ready to interview our students throughout each of our programs.

WHAT KIND OF JOB CAN I EXPECT AFTER GRADUATING FROM A SECURESET IMMERSIVE PROGRAM? Our immersive graduates are set up to start their career in either an Analyst, Engineer or Consultant type role. Within each of these three fields are various titles such as: •Security Engineer •Security Pen Tester •SOC Analyst •Threat Intel Analyst •Compliance Analyst •Security Consultant

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO WHILE AT SECURESET TO BOOST MY CHANCES AT GETTING A GREAT JOB? Practice! Practice! Practice! HOW DOES THE FULL TIME PROGRAM COMPARE TO THE PART-TIME PROGRAM? Please see the following graphic for a comparison of the Full Time and Part Time immersive programs. More information can be found on the program pages of the Academy website.

CURRICULUM

AM I REQUIRED TO HAVE A CERTAIN TYPE OF COMPUTER OR OTHER MATERIALS FOR YOUR IMMERSIVE PROGRAMS? A list of all your equipment needs will be supplied to you before your cohort begins. Generally speaking, any laptop of reasonable quality, less than three years old, should meet your needs for our immersive programs.

CAN I REALLY BECOME AN EXPERT IN THE SHORT TIMEFRAME OF AN IMMERSIVE PROGRAM? We won’t promise that you will be an expert. It takes many years for that to happen. We do promise that we can make you one of the best entry-level cybersecurity professionals in the marketplace. As we support you in stepping into your career, we will continue to work with you to help you achieve your goals long after you have graduated.

HOW DO YOU RECOMMEND I PREPARE FOR IMMERSIVES? Taking advantage of workshops and prep courses in advance of the first day will help you get up to speed—and become part of the security community. If you are fairly confident in your analytical, networking and/or programming skills there may be little you need to do to prepare for our programs.

DOES THE ACADEMY REQUIRE TESTS OR FINAL EXAMS? There will be assessments of your knowledge, skills and abilities as you move along in our program. Instead of a comprehensive final exam, students will participate in an interdisciplinary capstone project that allows them to practice all that they’ve learned throughout the program.

PREVIOUS CREDITS Students must have all previous education and experience evaluated for credit prior to enrollment. SecureSet Academy does not guarantee transferability of our credits to another institution unless there is a written agreement with another institution. SecureSet Academy maintains a written record of the previous education and training of the veteran or eligible person and clearly indicates that appropriate credit has been given for previous education and training, with the training period shortened proportionately, and the veteran or eligible person and the Department of Veterans Affairs so notified. POSTPONEMENT OF START DATE Postponement of a starting date, whether at the request of the school or the student, requires a written agreement signed by the student and the school. The agreement must set forth: a. Whether the postponement is for the convenience of the school or the student, and; b. A deadline for the new start date, beyond which the start date will not be postponed. (A student may defer admission to a program for up to 12 months from the original accepted program start date. If Enrollment is not completed within that 12 months, the student will be required to reapply.)

ADDITIONAL TERMS AND ACKNOWLEDGMENTS If a candidate is accepted into and enrolls in the Academy, he or she expressly acknowledges and agrees to the following. CERTIFICATION EXAMS The Academy curriculum is designed to provide sufficient training for Academy students to be ready for their careers on day one of their jobs. The curriculum is not designed or centered on certification preparation. We encourage our students to take advantage of our partnership with Cybervista and acquire certification training alongside our programs. SecureSet does not guarantee, and participation in and/or successful completion of the Academy program does not ensure, passage of these exams. Among many other factors, the student’s effort in participating in the Academy program (regardless of grades received), the student’s preparation for these exams and the student’s ability and proficiency at test taking may all materially affect the student’s performance on and ability to pass these exams. EDUCATION LOANS SecureSet has included in this catalog and may otherwise provide certain information about applying for or obtaining student loans from Skills Fund or other lenders or financing parties (“Lenders”). Notwithstanding any such provision of information, or any relationship between the Academy and any Lender, SecureSet does not guarantee Student’s ability to obtain education loans, SecureSet does not have any decision-making authority over education loans provided by any Lender or any input into the decision-making of any Lender, and the student remains solely responsible for any application for education

loans from any Lender. Whether or not the student applies for or receives education loans, the student will remain solely responsible for timely payment of all tuition and fees. FINANCIAL AID, DISCOUNTS AND REFUNDS SecureSet reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to: (i) provide financial aid, scholarships or discounts, or refunds in excess of the amounts set forth in SecureSet’s refund policy, or to approve or deny, in whole or in part, requests for financial aid, scholarships, discounts or refunds in excess of the refund policy, on any basis deemed reasonable and appropriate by SecureSet, which financial aid, scholarships, discounts and refunds need not be granted or allocated consistently, or at all, between students. SecureSet shall not be deemed to have granted, allocated or approved any financial aid, scholarships, discounts or refunds, or any request for any financial aid, scholarships, discounts or refunds, unless explicitly stated in writing by an Administrative staff member of SecureSet. CITIZENSHIP Additionally, in our experience, we have found that some U.S. employers may subject non-U.S. citizens applying for cybersecurity jobs to greater scrutiny, which may make it more difficult for graduates that are non-U.S. citizens to find employment with U.S. employers. You should consider this carefully when considering whether to apply to the Academy.
