Arts COR BOR OGWR MAKING A JOYFUL NOISE From slow and serious to light and sparkling, Cor Bro Ogwr’s Christmas concert had music to delight all tastes. The opening ‘Christmas Cantata’ was accompanied by a brass quintet of students from The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, who also played a selection of well known music, ‘Christmas Crackers’ put together for brass. Benjamin Britten’s ‘A Ceremony of Carols’ featured fast fingered harpist Angharad Edwards, who joined accompanist Glenn Crooks on the organ. The opening piece, sung by our soloists, Catrin Raymond and Grace Wyatt, raised hairs on the back of everyone’s neck as they started singing at the back of the church and proceeded down the aisle. The second half of the programme featured Welsh and English carols with a twist – ‘Jazz Carols’ by contemporary composer Will Todd and a version of ‘Tua Bethlem Dref,’ with an accompaniment from ‘Walking through the Air’ which our conductor cleverly wove through. Yes, it worked! Soloists and harpist also delighted us with their own chosen pieces. Our first concert with new conductor, Rosie Howarth, was a most enjoyable, colourful evening. You weren’t there? You missed a treat. Dominique Spearey www.cor-bro-ogwr.com

PYLE & PORTHCAWL PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY During our Christmas break we moved our equipment over to our new base in the hall at St Clare’s School, Newton. On our very first meeting there we had a fascinating presentation from Harry Gardiner from Tenby about the relationship between Photography and Art and how we photographers use the same rules of composition etc. as the old masters did centuries ago. Then the following week we were treated to another remarkable presentation from Jenny Hibbert, a well known and respected wildlife photographer from Bridgend who shared with us her
