We recently undertook the ‘Geirio Gwych’ and ‘Big Writing’ literacy initiatives which are proving to be very successful. Not only do the children thoroughly enjoy the work, particularly the ‘Big Write’ event in which once a week they spend up to an hour composing various genres in a calm atmosphere of subdued lighting and classical music, we’re also beginning to see a real impact on the standard of Welsh and English writing. As a Welsh medium primary, we are keen competitors in the Urdd eisteddfodau each year. Established in 1922 the Urdd is a movement which gives children various opportunities to socialise through the medium of Welsh. The eisteddfod is the largest event in the Urdd’s calendar with this year’s national event being held in Bala during Whitsun. We are very proud of all of the children who competed in the eisteddfod at school, county and district levels. All the best to the following who will now represent us at the national: Cerdd Dant Solo - Carwyn Keirl; Solo Recitation – Martha Herbert; Harp Solo – Martha MacMillan; 2D Artwork – Osian GrifďŹ th; 3D Group project - Tara Coombes, Kate Goff, Angharad Jones, Lleucu Jones, Martha MacMillan and Georgia Murray and Grace Richards-Hier; Computer graphics – Lacey Jones.
