New Taekwondo school coming to Porthcawl A local Taekwondo school is to start offering new junior classes in Porthcawl in January 2014. Sessions will be run by Neil Gimbel who already oversees training in his Cowbridge academy since 2008. Neil admits that the idea for a new Taekwondo school in Porthcawl had been brewing for a while and hopes to build a strong membership with children aged 6 years+ and have a positive influence on the kids in the community. The school is backed by the TAGB one of the largest and most successful Taekwondo association in Europe and the BTC, the governing body for Taekwondo in the UK. Neil has been training in martial arts for over 20 years, is a former Taekwondo National Team member with Wales and has been teaching since 2005. Neil Says: “Having trained for so many years and competed at the highest level of the sport, I always hope to share my experience and knowledge with a new generation of young athletes and may be train the World and Olympic Champions of tomorrow. Taekwondo is a fantastic activity for children and has such a beneficial impact on so many different levels. Whether it is discipline, fitness

or confidence, every child can have fun and develop through martial arts training”. The new beginner’s class is due to start on Tuesday 7th January 2014 and will be held at YMCA Porthcawl, The Y Centre, 25 John Street every Tuesdays and Fridays (4.30 to 5.30pm). Wales, British lion and club windbreak Richard Webster was on top form. Nice to see local Ian Barham fresh from summer training in the French Alps riding hard all day hotly pursued by the peloton. The ride on 19th October was a 55 and 36 mile dash around Ogmore by Sea and the Vale with 15 riders braving the weather. Adverse weather conditions again hampered the following Saturday’s ride, with only the hardcore riders tapping out a commendable 45mile ride. All very welcome. The club was formed at the end of September, and meet every Saturday at 9 o’clock from the Ye Olde Wine House in Pyle. The inaugural ride took place on the 5th October with a turnout of 17 riders of all ages, sex and experience. We were blessed by the cycling gods which presented us with some fantastic weather, so we all took the splendid Afan Valley up to the Bwlch with the smaller ride turning off to the cycle centre in Glyncorrwg. The 12th October provided a 70 mile loop up to Abercrave and down the Neath valley with the smaller ride a 38 mile loop of Tonna and Aberdulais. It was a fantastic turn out with some 27 riders.
