Skerries Star Makes Concert Debut Skerries star and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Ryan O’Shaughnessy has confirmed his first headline show at The Academy Dublin on Saturday 8th September. The local lad caused quite a sensation when he first appeared on the popular TV show earlier this year and he is now ready to play his first gig. His debut self-titled album went straight into the Irish Charts at number one, and into the UK Top Ten. During this year’s Britain’s Got Talent final, the hopeful was a marked contrast to the show’s reliably entertaining magicians, performing pets and dance squads – one man, an acoustic guitar and his own songs. 19-year-old Ryan O’Shaughnessy from Skerries was an instant hit with the judges and millions watching.

Ryan’s new move appears just as unlikely – releasing a self-titled mini-album of six self-penned songs, but he says: “People know from the show that I write my own songs – it’s what they expect from me. The acoustic side is what I feel comfortable with and the songs fit together nicely.” He plays most of the instruments, including piano, on the minialbum, explaining: “I can pick up most instruments and get a good sound. I have a good ear, which makes things a lot easier.” It helped that Ryan grew up in The North County surrounded by his father’s guitars and mother’s piano, writing his first songs with his brother two years ago. Although both parents are decent amateur musicians – his father played a season of gigs in the Canary Islands. Now, he wants to start gigging in earnest and eventually playing festivals such as Oxegen, his concert on September 8th is a great way to start!
