Maine Maritime Museum (MMM) has announced that the museum's life-size sculpture of the 1909 six masted schooner Wjioming will receive six 120-foot masts this spring. Built on the site where the original WJoming was built, the modern sculpture curren tly spans almost 450 feet across the museum's lawn. The original WJoming was built at the Percy & Small Shipyard in Bath, Maine, and was the

largest wooden sailing ship ever built in the United States. The ship is represented on the museum's grounds by two structures, replicas of the ship's bow and stern, standing almost six and four stories tall respectively. While the sculpture in its current form was completed in 2006, it was always the museum's goal to add the masts. Thanks to generous contributions from supporters of MMM, the funds became available to finish the project. The

Percy & Small Shipyard built 41 four-, five-, and six-masted sailing vessels between 1894 and 1920, including seven of the ten six-masted sailing ships ever built in the US. MMM's riverfront campus includes the grounds and four of the five original buildings from the original shipyard; it is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
