WEST INDIES Nelson's Dockyard at English Harbor, Antigua , West Ind ies , has long been a gathering place fo r yachtsmen bent on purposes more peaceful than those which saw major European battlefleets contest control of the island trades in the 17th and 18th centuries. Desmond Nicholson, who came to the island to operate a boatyard after World War II, has led a remarkable historical renaissance based on the buildings that served the Royal Navy so long and so well , and offers a splendid historical guide to the Dockyard . A next step in is to survey the myriad wrecks scattered around the island, a task Nicholson is well embarked on with National Society Trustee Norman Brouwer at South Street Seaport Museum.
