Presenting an exciting and vibrant programme of events there is something for everyone in our libraries this spring- time. Would you like to learn more about the Masterpieces at the National Gallery and the Hugh Lane Gallery, or, update your smartphone or tablet skills? You can celebrate International Children’s Day and Easter, or visit one of our exhibitions. “Spring into Storytime” will see storytelling sessions for parents and children in all of our libraries www. librariesireland.ie . Silent Book Exhibition 1st–18th April, Ballyroan Library A collection of over one hundred exciting Silent Books (wordless picture Books) from around the world that can be understood and enjoyed by children regardless of language. This collection was created by iBbY (the International Board on Books for Young people) in response to the waves of refugees from Africa and the Middle East arriving in the Italian Island of Lampedusa and is in Ireland on tour for three months only, don’t miss your chance to see them. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of International Children’s Book Day with Silent Books in Ballyroan Library. April 2017 Easter Craft Fun Workshops Thursdays 6th & 13th April 3.30pm, Castletymon Library In these two Arts/Crafts workshops with Art teacher Sinéad Ni Chofaigh, Sinéad will assist the children to produce a variety of Easter- themed items including Easter cards and colourful Easter eggs. This will be a two-week project.

Ireland’s travelling marionette theatre, The Moon & Sixpence Puppet Theatre, presents Little Red Riding Hood. Marionette performances are at 10am.

The show is a cheeky version of Red Riding Hood, which features the classic fairy-tale characters and a talking dustbin, who encourages children to pick up litter. This string puppet production includes a moral in the tale, showing the importance of patience and friendship. The show, lasting fifty minutes, is performed live with music and sound effects and draws plenty of audience participation, as much from adults as from children.

June 2017 The Birds of Tallaght Thursday 15th June 6.30pm–7.30pm, Tallaght Library Join Niall Hatch of Bird Watch Ireland as he reveals the rich birdlife of the local area. With tips on finding and identifying birds and advice on how best to care for the birds which visit local parks and gardens, this presentation is ideal for anyone with even a passing interest in wildlife. Niall is a regular contributor on Mooney Goes Wild on RTÉ Radio 1.

Musical Tots Workshop Tuesday 13th June 10am, Castletymon Library With Karen Donnellan. This is a fun learning workshop targetted at preschool children. It helps young children to develop language, co-ordination and social skills. Karen plays her guitar and covers a variety of most enjoyable nursery rhymes and other songs suitable for the very young.
