More Sun, More Fun

See the Sundial Bridge in its splendor, wander through the adjacent botanical gardens, and play at Turtle Bay Exploration Park. The next day, hike to waterfalls, paddle, gold pan, picnic, swim, and mountain bike without ever leaving Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Spend the evening dining, shopping, and enjoying live music in downtown Redding. On your third day, take the triple-adventure-tour at Lake Shasta Caverns, with a catamaran cruise across the lake, a scenic bus tour up the mountain, and of course: a journey back in time millions of years inside beautiful, ancient caves.

After the first three days, spend time in Lassen Volcanic National Park exploring bubbling mud, boiling lakes, and breathtaking mountain vistas. (In the winter, Lassen’s rangers will take you snowshoeing, and the sledding hills are sublime.) Next: take the free tour inside California’s beloved Shasta Dam, and see the famous three Shastas – dam, lake, and mountain – from one scenic spot. If you still have a few days, add the fascinating ghost town of Shasta Historic State Park to your list, sip your way around the region’s wineries, and take a guided fishing trip on the beautiful Sacramento River.
