paths of circulation - both pedestrian and vehicularcertain spaces were created that provided potential design possibilities. The plantings were chosen by taking into consideration the effects of the ocean breeze on plant types and the sun conditions in between the two houses. There is a focal point on the right side of the house with descending plant heights until the pedestrian beach access walkway. Because of the focal point on the right, the eye is drawn from right to left across the house creating a frame. The plant types were chosen based off of the house as a frame. Structure and rigid edges were used to emphasize the built environment with a theme of formality in this design. Small stones next to the pedestrian access 4.75 reinforce structure even on the walk to the beach.

site analysis and the required conditions necessary for seacoast exposed plants, certain areas on the property determined what types of plants would be planted where. The focal point is directly in the center of the house with a medium sized specimen tree. The eye then fades from the center to either the left or right and is continued in height descent around the corners of the house to the longitudinal sides. The textures of the plants are soft and there are multiple shades of green with bright accents of purple. This provides interest in different focal areas. The emphasis is on the natural environment in this design, reinforcing the movement of the ocean and softness of the ocean breeze. The theme is informal and the lines are softer due to the different textures of each plant in relation to the other.

takes into account the progression of nature to the intervention of man. The flow is more closely related to the use of space and having a low maintenance, yet multipurpose yard. The organic path in the front yard fades and flows into a more rigid and tamed back area, on both the right and left. On the right a Horseshoe pit has been incorporated with a very linear shrub border for property delineation and privacy. The plantings are very low maintenance and would provide a soft texture and movement from the shoots of grasses. The circulation between both sides of the house is important to emphasis the transition and crossover between nature and man. Creating destination spaces along the house allows for the plantings to create more of a journey, with a progression in size and textures along the way.
