SOCALOPEN
John Mallinger of Long Beach continued his stellar play with another 66 in round three to cap off a dominant victory. Six birdies and his second bogeyfree round of the three gave Mallinger a four shot margin over his nearest competitor as he finished at 18-under par. Matt Picanso played solid, but wasn’t able to close the gap as Mallinger never left an opening. However, with his final round 67 (-5), Picanso would secure a runner-up finish at 14-under par. Eli Cole, an amateur from Beverly Hills rocketed up the leaderboard in the final round thanks to a 64 to claim third place and low amateur honors. Mallinger follows Jason Gore as Champion of the Oakley Southern California Open. Gore did not compete this year as he is in the field at the PGA TOUR Sanderson Farms Championship this week. Mallinger, a PGA TOUR regular the past few years will, much like Gore, look to turn this momentum into a successful campaign on the Web.com Tour in 2015. Congratulations to Oakley Southern California Champion John Mallinger! Notables: Low PGA Professionasl: Ryan Kennedy (Oakmont C.C.) & Chris Gilley (Seacliff C.C.)
