19th Annual Homer WinterFest From
Friday evening, January 25 through Saturday, January 26, the 19th Annual Homer WinterFest brings food, fun, and entertainment to residents and visitors from Cortland County and beyond. WinterFest began in 2000 as part of the Homer Business Association to bring fun activities into the Village during the winter season and to promote the Homer community. Since these humble beginnings, this classic festival has grown into a hugely popular event within the Village, providing something for everyone including a Friday night bonfire and fireworks, wine and beer tastings, antiques and
crafts, children’s activities, sled racing, ice sculptures, and much more. Friday evening starts out with a sloppy Joe dinner, fish fry, bonfire, and fireworks followed by the Community Arts Challenge grand opening, food, drinks, and a live DJ. Saturday morning includes a pancake breakfast, parade, flea market (with pizza and cinnamon buns), antiques and crafts shows, and the human dog sled race on the green. A winter blizzard blast bonanza at the Congregational church includes games, scavenger hunt, and candy making. Children’s events at the Homer Elementary School include games, face painting, crafts, Dan the Snake Man, and hilarious stunts, comedy, and juggling by Joshua J. Superstar. There is also a Homer School District Bicentennial historical presentation at the library.
A mammogram fan provided by Lourdes Hospital will be available for walk-in screenings. Amateur chefs compete at the annual Chili Cook-Off, with judging by the public. Refreshments and a guided tour are held at the Elizabeth Brewster House. Free youth bowling is available at Hi Lanes. Regional wines and cheeses can be found at the wine tasting event, and craft beers and wings can be enjoyed at the Homer Winter Wingfest at the Elks Lodge, followed by clams at the Winter Clamfest (pre-sale only). Events continue into the evening, including the Homer Education Foundation Annual Volleyball Tournament, live DJ, and drinks. The full Homer WinterFest schedule can be found in our brochures available at many local merchants. Full event information is at www.homerwinterfest.org.
