MASQUERADE An exploration into personal identity through masks and digital image making. Through a collection of images, this work questions a person’s displayed visual persona, or public identity within the current ‘selfie’ phenomenon. Is this the real person we see or do we see a public ‘mask’ presented to friends, family and the wider world? After photographing myself and a number of collaborators, 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional masks were created. The collaborators were encouraged to take a number of ‘selfies’, wearing their own mask, with a smart phone or digital camera wherever and however they chose. None of the images have been digitally altered. My sincere thanks go to all the collaborators without whose contributions the work would not have been possible: Alan, Brian, Clowdy, Frido, Hüseyin, Jules, Matthias, Max, Othmar and Sara.
