Welcome to the October issue of the MC Hoop Scoop! Pre‐season has come to an end and October 15th, the first official day of pracBce is upon us. Over the past 6 weeks, our team has been working their tail off geJng ready for this day. Through senior‐led workouts, the guys have been alternaBng between playing pick‐up, puJng themselves through individual workouts, condiBoning, and liLing weights 3 days a week! Now that the regular season is here, the guys are chomping at the bit to hit the floor and get started. The team pracBced twice on Saturday, the 15th, 9‐12 in the morning and came back for an aLernoon session from 3 Bll 5. The rest of the week has followed our typical aLernoon pracBce from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m.

as we have one month to prepare for our South region rival Centre College. Our first game is at Centre, November 15th! We hope all the fans and supporters are as excited as we are to get the season started.

Dear Figh*ng Scots Fans, October 15th is here and it’s *me to start prac*ce. All the pre‐season hype and hours of prepara*on in the gym, in the weight room, and on the track is winding down. It’s *me to get busy and begin the work for another successful season.

The coaching staff has spent hours mulling over the 29 player roster. With 14 returning players, 13 freshmen, and 2 transfers, compe**on for the privilege to prac*ce with the varsity has been outstanding. We will need to split the squad into 2 separate units for teaching purposes. The staff has been considering the obvious criteria: Skill level, soundness of fundamentals, willingness to compete, the ability to play within a system, and the desire to be coached. Of course, we also have to look at their academic progress and their off the court behavior. There are several athletes that are on the bubble and the coaches have determined that we will evaluate each player’s overall character, level of commitment, and the desire to be a good teammate as the *e breakers. With 5 seniors, we should be able to put an experienced line‐up on the floor. Of course, we also realize we will lose these five aRer this season, which magnifies the need to bring in 3 or 4 impact players in this year’s recrui*ng class. I really feel op*mis*c about this year. What years did you play at Maryville College? 1981-82 1982-83 Most Memorable Moment or game? Had many great memories but one that sticks out is the game winning shot vs a very good Washington & Lee team @ Boydson Baird Gymnasium. Why did you choose Maryville? I was Junior College Transfer and wanted the best education possible and felt Maryville provided that. I wanted to become a Lawyer. What did you take from your experience at Maryville as a student and athlete? As a student I learned very valuable skills in critical thinking as well as expanding my views of the world through classes like Western Civilizations. I formed great friendships that I still hold today. As an athlete I learned a great deal of discipline from Coach Lambert. Coach Lambert continues to be a professional advisor and most of all a great personal friend.
What I am doing today? I am one of the founding members of Realty Trust Group (“RTG”) and have served as President since its formation in 1998. I am also a principal broker for RTG and a licensed real estate professional in five states. I have over 22 years of experience in healthcare real estate including ten years as the chief real estate professional with a regional healthcare system in Knoxville, Tennessee. I began my career as a Land Use Planner working for the State of Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. I earned my Masters in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Maryville College. I hold professional designations as a Certified Commercial Investment Member(CCIM), a Certified Property Manager (CPM) and a Counselor of Real Estate(CRE). Greg and his wife, Kim, have three children Kelsey,Alexander, and Caroline.

Pre-Season Team Activities Every year, we try to do a couple of team building acBviBes in the preseason. We believe in doing some non‐basketball related acBviBes to have some fun outside of the gym and to develop team chemistry. One thing we do every pre‐season is have a team cookout at Coach Lambert’s house. The cookout usually takes place mid‐way through the preseason and this year we had it 2 weeks ago on Sunday, October 2nd. The annual cookout consists of a whiffle ball home‐run derby, a hole‐ in‐one contest where every player hits one golf shot approximately 100 yards across the pond, and if the weather permits, everyone on the team gets a chance to catch a fish out of the pond (catch and release of course)! For the other team acBvity, we try to change it up every year. Last fall we went white water raLing down the Ocoee River and this year we took a trip to Dollywood Amusement Park. The enBre team and coaching staff had a blast riding the roller coasters, joking, and laughing at each other.

Once we finished at Dollywood we enjoyed a delicious team dinner at JT Hannah’s, a local hotspot in Pigeon Forge. A weekend like this really allows the guys to slow down and enables the “kid” in them to come out. It’s also a great chance for them to appreciate and enjoy each other’s company.
