Yvonne Finlayson for Conference Committee

I will bring – Fresh ideas as I’m relatively new to the party

Experience in running conferences and increasing delegate engagement

“I’d like to make conference more welcoming to members who don’t know many others, and I’d like to help drive transparency in terms of motions submitted, accepted and rejected. Where time (and resources) permit, I’d like to see us use inexpensive digital technology to make conference more interactive, whilst providing real time input from delegates. This in turn helps facilitate conversation and engagement amongst delegates” Email:yfinlayson@aol.com

David Green For Conference Committee David currently serves as a member of Conference Committee and chaired the party’s 2016 election review. He previously worked as Press Officer to Charles Kennedy and was President of Liberal Youth Scotland.

Three reasons to vote for David... INCLUSIVENESS: The party has so many new

members and I want to ensure they find a home at conference. I will do the hard graft of improving conference feedback channels and exploring new ways for members to contribute to conference.

DIVERSITY: Conference is a platform for real debate. I will always argue for motions that are challenging and relevant to the issues Scotland faces. That applies to our fringes where, as with conference, we must have a diversity of speakers.

ENGAGEMENT: In my time leading Liberal Youth we passed dozens of motions. It is hard work, but we ensured anyone could get involved. I will engage with members, offer advice and feedback to improve the range of motions at conference.

Re-elect

Ross Stalker

for Conference Committee

With almost a decade of experience in making our Conference happen, I know what we do well, and where we can still improve. I have always shown the commitment required to deliver a successful Conference.

Conference Committee’s role in setting the Conference agenda gives them a lot of power over party democracy. I believe that we should seek to maximise the influence of party members in decision making. Too often, the Committee is forced to reject motions due to drafting issues. I want to introduce a pre-deadline for motion submission, in order to provide a guarantee of feedback on drafting. Policy Committee motions are almost certain to be carried, which makes several debates at Conference foregone conclusions. I want Conference Committee to work with Policy Committee on the structure of their motions so that they include multi-option votes, giving members more choice. Conference should be more than a rubber stamp! I will always prioritise motions which provide real debate and radically advance our policy over motions which ‘reaffirm’ existing policy. Of course Conference should be used to advertise current topical policy to the media, but Q&A sessions and set speeches provide ample opportunity to do this. I will ensure that Conference Committee continues to consider gender balance and other representation issues when setting the agenda.
