Imola 186cc cylinder kit
Also the Imola is a Nicasil-plated alloy cylinder kit. Reedvalve induction and porting layout are very similar to the TS1. Also all exhausts with TS1 stub and all TS1 inlet manifold fit the Imola. The big difference however is the 64mm bore as the Imola kit is designed for the 125 175 engine casings, for which it is the most powerful kit available. Depending on the setup, between 14 and 22 hp can be achieved. Besides the cylinder, inlet manifold and complete piston, a selection of gaskets, studs and nuts are also included in the kit. A real gem is the cylinder head, which is also part of the kit. It is specifically shaped to match the piston crown and fixed to the cylinder by using locating bushes. The high quality piston is the same as used for the Mugello kit, only without boost port windows. Due to its lightweight design, engine vibrations are effectively reduced. Two 1 mm piston rings and a graphite coating to aid running in leave nothing to be desired. As the Imola is also sand cast, changes to the design of the cylinder are rather easy. So the current Imola is already the second version, featuring a larger base gasket surface and an improved porting layout. Also the reed petals and the inlet manifold have been improved since the introduction of the kit. The old inlet manifolds occasionally caused problems as some of them leaked air. The current version has been beefed up at the critical points and has turned out very reliable now. A huge advantage of the Imola inlet manifold is its small size. The manifold is significantly shorter than the TS1's, so that the carburettor sits closer to the frame, giving more room under the panel. The carburettor is sitting at the righthand side of the engine so that the battery holder must be removed. Suitable carburettors for the standard inlet manfold are Dell'Orto PHB and VHS 28 mm carbs, the Mikuni TM 27 or 30 and the Keihin PWK 28.

At the current version of the Imola, all gasket faces at the exhaust and transfer ports leave enough space for further tuning. But even straight from the box the Imola is a powerful piece of kit. With a high-revving exhaust like the KRP2 or KRP4, top speeds of more than 120 kph can easily be achieved. With a standard Pacemaker gearing, this equals 10.000 rpm. High quality bearings and a race crank are an absolute must with such rev figures. If you don't like such extremely revvy set-ups, a different choice of exhaust can turn the Imola into a great touring kit. An exhaust which produces more torque (PM 28, MB Dev Tour, Taffspeed) will change the nature of the engine drastically. As the performance is no longer achieved by high rpm, a taller gearing should be used. If you don't worry about a few horsepower more or less, you can also use the Imola with a Clubman exhaust for a smooth and trouble-free ride.
