ACTFL President

Dr. Victoria Russell, ACTFL President and former SCOLT Board member, presided over the 2022 ACTFL Convention. Victoria told the beautiful story of her professional journey and shared inspiring stories of providing experiences abroad for students who might not have had access otherwise. She expertly facilitated a conversation with chef and philanthropist, Jose Andres, which had to be conducted unexpectedly via Zoom due to his current work in Ukraine. Victoria is an Associate Professor Spanish and Foreign Language Education at Valdosta State University.

SCOLT Teacher of the Year

Claudia Elliott, 2022 SCOLT Teacher of the Year, represented the organization well at ACTFL! SCOLT is proud of her work! Claudia is a Spanish teacher at the Paxon School for Advanced Studies in Jacksonville, FL.

SCOLT President Receives Award

SCOLT President, Dr. Krista Chambless, is the 2022 recipient of the Excellence in Online Teaching Award from the Distance Learning Special Interest Group (SIG) at ACTFL. Krista is an Associate Professor of French and Spanish at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. She teaches foreign language methods as well as French and Spanish courses. The Distance Learning SIG provides a forum for language teachers engaged in distance learning to collaborate and develop best-practice principles, and supports research in this field.

SCOLT Executive Director Receives Award

Dr. Leslie Baldwin, SCOLT Executive Director, received the 2022 Supervisor of the Year Award from the National Association of District Supervisors of Foreign Languages (NADSFL). The award, sponsored by Carnegie Learning, was announced at the annual NADSFL conference in Boston. In addition to her role with SCOLT, Leslie is the World Languages Director in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools in Winston-Salem, NC.
