Greeting to you all from the Board of Sister Cities New Zealand. May 2014 bring to the world new hope for peace through meaningful understanding between nations. May people to people contact via the Sister Cities movement lead the way forward. GORE CONFERENCE - 3 to 5 April 2014 at the Scenic Circle Croydon Hotel “Country to Country – from the heart of Southland, to the world” TRANSPORT FROM AIRPORTS The Conference organising committee is pleased to offer transport from either Invercargill or Dunedin airports for delegates attending the Sister Cities New Zealand conference in Gore. Gore is a comfortable 50 minute drive from Invercargill airport and about 1½ hours from Dunedin Airport. One collection from Dunedin airport will be made mid-morning on Thursday 3 April. This should suit delegates coming from either Auckland or Wellington. A collection from Invercargill airport can also be made on Wednesday evening and again on Thursday morning. Most flights to Invercargill go via Christchurch. CONFERENCE PROGRAMME The Conference programme and Registration Form (available from http://www.sistercities.org.nz ) has been released and include a range of interest speakers and presentations. The Earlybird registration closing date has been extended to February 28th. We actively encourage all Sister Cities, Local Government, Government and interested persons to attend this conference. AIR NEW ZEALAND AWARDS The Air New Zealand 2014 Award entry forms were emailed out so it is hoped everyone is working on their entries. 1. Best youth, education or school project 2. Best cultural sport of recreation project 3. Best business or commercial project Entries closing soon Monday, 3rd March 2014.


SOUTHLAND DISTRICT COUNCIL FRIENDSHIP COMMITTEE – YOUTH FORUM : 13 March 2014 Embracing the theme of Connecting Globally has driven the SDC Friendship Committee’s desire to hold a forum for young Southlanders next month. The forum venue will be the Wallacetown Community Centre and will feature speakers from the Council, a chef specialising in international food, Southland District Youth Council members, Rotary Exchange students, a performance from popular new Southland group RAP (Respect for All People), and a BBQ lunch. Secondary school students are the focus of the forum which aims to encourage youth engagement in international and Sister Cities relationships. It will also be an opportunity for the Friendship Committee to advertise the SCNZ Art competition, the SDC Anzac Essay Competition, the national conference in Gore, and grow its potential membership for the future. SISTER CITIES NEW ZEALAND HIGH SCHOOL ART COMPETITION We’ve launching a competition to find two inspiring, creative and original images to print on our greeting cards. Your name, school, and image will then be seen by 100’s of people in New Zealand and around the world! Two age categories: 13-15 years old and 16-18 years old. Closes Friday 15 March 2014 The winning entries will be decided by public vote on the SCNZ Facebook page and displayed at the SCNZ Annual Conference in Gore (3-5 April). Winners will be notified by email on the 5 April, and confirmed on our Facebook page! Further information at end of newsletter – so get designing.
