Program Highlights u Working closely with clinical partners at National Jewish Health, ranked as the nation’s #1 respiratory hospital in the country by U.S. News and World Report, Saint Joseph Hospital is one of the most capable heart programs in the Rocky Mountain region with some of the best patient outcomes. and patient experiences. As rated by Press Ganey, the cardiovascular department at Saint Joseph Hospital outperforms all local competitors in all aspects of the HCAHPS survey. In fact, in 2020, thanks to excellent heart and vascular inpatient care, patients ranked Saint Joseph Hospital as one of the best hospitals in the nation for patient experience for all hospitals in the 300 to 450 bed category. u The Advanced Heart Failure Program at Saint Joseph Hospital provides innovative treatments and

technologies for patients living with heart failure in its most serious stages. With the goal of reducing hospital admissions and extending the lives of heart failure patients, the Advanced Heart Failure program works closely with patients and their current health care providers to create a successful treatment plan. Focusing on education for self-care, medication management, careful testing and monitoring, and fast access to adjunct therapies when needed, the program provides a holistic and personalized approach to support patients and their families. u Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is a highly specialized treatment for patients with severe and life-threatening illness. Saint Joseph Hospital is one of just a handful of hospitals in the Rocky Mountain region that offers the necessary technology and unique

multidisciplinary expertise to provide this advanced cardiopulmonary support for patients needing ECMO. In 2020, the use of ECMO produced positive results for patients with life-threatening COVID-19 infections and resulted in Saint Joseph Hospital serving as a regional referral center for the sickest of the sick.

SCL Health Heart & Vascular Institute – 2020 Annual Report | 7

Saint Joseph Hospital (continued)

u Nationwide, 50 percent of patients in cardiogenic shock do not survive, making it one of the most lethal cardiovascular conditions, especially for those with advanced heart failure. To combat this and to complement the Advanced Heart Failure Program, Saint Joseph Hospital has created a cardiogenic shock team to improve patient outcomes and institute national protocols proven to reduce mortality. u The Structural Heart program at Saint Joseph Hospital is one of the first and highest performing heart and vascular specialty programs in the Rocky Mountain region. Today, Saint Joseph Hospital offers advanced procedures that include TAVR for aortic stenosis, MitraClip for mitral valve regurgitation, ASD/PFO closures, and Watchman for stroke risk reduction in atrial fibrillation (AFib) patients. Structural heart procedures combine the talents of cardiothoracic surgeons and specially trained interventional cardiologists to address structural defects in the heart and valves in patients for whom open-heart surgical procedures are not recommended. u The cardiothoracic surgery program at Saint Joseph Hospital continues to be one of the best performing surgical programs in the United States and the only program in Colorado to be recommended by Consumer Reports. As measured by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Saint Joseph Hospital has some of the best outcomes for adult heart surgeries, earning better than expected ratings in overall CABG and Mitral Valve replacement and repair.

u Led by Dr. Ruchika Husa, Saint Joseph Hospital has developed a new cardio-oncology program that provides comprehensive, collaborative heart and cancer care that seeks to improve clinical outcomes and quality of life for those who are currently being treated for cancer as well as cancer survivors susceptible to long-term cardiac complications. Working closely with a patient’s existing cancer care team, the cardio-oncology program helps create co-managed treatment plans that balance and maximize cancer-fighting therapies with cardioprotective strategies. Since launching in July 2020, the program has evaluated more than 30 patients undergoing high-risk chemotherapy, started a significant number of these patients on cardioprotective treatments, and has effectively made it possible for 100% of patients treated to continue to receive life-saving chemotherapy while mitigating cardiotoxic side effects. u Thanks to the collaboration and clinical partnership with National Jewish Health, Saint Joseph Hospital is one of the

few places in the world able to fully diagnose and treat pulmonary hypertension (PH) in a comprehensive and patient-focused way. National Jewish Health and Saint Joseph Hospital are one of only four programs in Colorado accredited to treat PH having demonstrated an ability to properly diagnose the disease and have the capability to manage complex patients. u Under the leadership of Dr. Christopher Dyke, one of the nation’s leading cardiac imaging specialists, Saint Joseph Hospital is now the only Denver imaging center to offer the routine combination of a comprehensive cardiac MRI with a chemical stress test, all in a single exam, providing unprecedented insights into heart function and structure, heart muscle blood flow (from possible blocked coronary arteries), and damage to the heart muscle such as scarring from heart attacks and other diseases that can cause heart muscle injury. With this advanced capability and expertise, Saint Joseph Hospital now offers some of the best cardiac images and clinical information to care for our cardiovascular patients. u Saint Joseph Hospital is home to the only Dr. Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease® Intensive Cardiac Rehab program in the Denver area. This internationally recognized cardiac rehab program remains the only program scientifically proven to reverse heart disease in randomized controlled trials published in leading peer-reviewed journals and is covered by Medicare and other major insurance providers.

u The Saint Joseph Hospital vascular surgery team is one of the most experienced teams for the surgical treatment of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) in the Rocky Mountain region and specializes in advanced open and endovascular repair. One of the more recent developments as part of the vascular surgery program is the use of fenestrated endografts, which utilizes a 3D model of a patient’s aorta and creates a graft made especially for a patient’s anatomy. Saint Joseph Hospital is the only medical center in Colorado utilizing this innovative technology.

Program Highlights u In 2020, St. Vincent Healthcare dramatically expanded its cardiothoracic surgery program with the addition of Dr. John H. Braxton, and Dr. David P. Sims, MD. St. Vincent is now the “go-to” destination for all levels of advanced heart care in Montana. u St. Vincent Healthcare provides a wide range of surgical and nonsurgical interventions for blood vessel problems and vascular disease. With outreach clinics in Bozeman, Lewistown, Cody, and Miles City, St. Vincent provides exceptional care to patients in a 200-mile radius of Billings, making it one of the most significant programs of its kind in Montana and Wyoming.

u St. Vincent has been at the forefront of population health by creating a prevention clinic. Focused on reducing cardiac risk factors and improving quality of life, the clinic helps patients manage their cardiac risk factors through screenings and life style changes based on each individual patient’s goals. u St. Vincent Healthcare has been able to expand its expertise in structural heart disease treatment for several years and is now one of the most established programs of its kind in Montana. The structural heart program offers Mitraclip procedures in addition to TAVR, PFO and ASD Closure.

u Due to the large geographic expanse of Montana and pockets of limited healthcare access, St. Vincent Healthcare has invested in expanding cardiology services to support outlying communities. This includes expanding vascular surgery followups and consults via an outreach clinic in Bozeman. Additional outreach cardiology care clinics are in Miles City at Holy Rosary Hospital, Red Lodge, Sidney and Cody, Wyoming. Additionally, thanks to grant support, St. Vincent has also been able to expand cardiac rehab services to remote patients so that patients in rural areas have the monitoring and care afforded to those in larger metropolitan areas.
