Teacher THE PURPOSE

What We provide primary focused international education in a caring and nurturing environment.

How We deliver a broad, balanced Britishbased curriculum that is tailored to meet the needs of our diverse community.

Why To promote the love of learning that prepares students for their next steps in education.

THE SCHOOL St Christopher’s International Primary School (SCIPS) was established in 1963. We deliver a broad and balanced British-based curriculum that is tailored to meet the needs of our diverse community. Hosting families of over 32 different nationalities, St Christopher’s provides primary focused international education in a caring and nurturing environment. Even with an enrolment of 580+ children, the school still maintains the atmosphere of a “small” International School, where a strong family feeling exists. St. Christopher’s is a non-denominational, not-for-profit making school and we are very proud of both our history and achievements. We recognise that our greatest strength has always been the quality of our relationships with families and the dedication of the teaching staff.

THE LEARNING

THE STAFF

We deliver a broad and balanced Britishbased curriculum that is tailored to meet the needs of our diverse community using the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

Teachers at St. Christopher’s are talented, caring, flexible and child centred in their approach to education. They are aware that the role of the class teacher extends far beyond the confines of the classrooms and they are committed to working with the school community to support learning.

The British National Curriculum is used to design our schemes of work for the teaching of Literacy, Mathematics and Science.

“Vivamus et metus.”

The IPC is an internationally recognised, child centred and future oriented curriculum. It is aimed at primary aged children growing up in the 21st Century. It focuses on and nurtures a love of learning and encourages the necessary key skills and personal qualities to be a successful learner. THE STUDENTS

THE PARENTS

St Christopher’s provides primary focused international education in a caring and nurturing environment for students aged between 3 and 11 years old.

We actively encourage parental involvement in the school and the Parent Committee works collaboratively with us to support in enhancing the opportunities and experiences of the students and the school community.

The school employs a mixture of overseas and locally hired teachers. The majority being British trained and experienced, recruited on an overseas contract.

Comprising of volunteers, the committee encourages and coordinates parents participation regardless of cultural background or experience. Their role is not to raise funds, but to support, enhance communication and organise different events.

Through their events, students and teachers from different countries and cultures are able to interact and enjoy working together on common interests.

“The students are the real jewels in the crown at SCIPS. They are so eager to learn and really want to please you. Their energy and enthusiasm, helps me to focus and hone my own teaching skills.” Gareth Junior Teacher “There is a real sense of community about the place, parents are really supportive of the school, and above all else the students are what make you get out of bed every morning!” Jamie Junior Teacher “The size of the school enables teachers to get to know each other very well. There is a fantastic closeness among staff members.” Jonathan Head of PE “What struck me most about St Christopher’s is the time and effort that is put into creating such a caring and nurturing environment, not only for the children but the staff too. From the moment you arrive, you are made to feel part of the team and at home, making the relocation such a positive and rewarding experience.” Beth Infant Teacher

THE ISLAND Penang, "The Pearl of the Orient" lies off the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The tropical island covers an area of about 285 sq. km; it is linked to the mainland by two bridges and a ferry service. Its population of more than 1 million represents a happy mix of the major races found in Malaysia. Penang enjoys a clean, safe and secure environment and its climate can be described as equatorial, a pleasant mix of warm, sunny days and occasional cooling rain storms, with temperatures between 24oC to 34oC. Penang has everything – beautiful golden beaches with swaying palm trees, the lush green tropical rainforests of Penang Hill, the World Heritage city of Georgetown as well as a developed and impressive modern hi-tech industrial area.
