HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY WHY WORK IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY? -There are so many different types of jobs within the hospitality industry and many people use their languages by working in a hotel abroad. - You can choose jobs which have a lot of contact with the public such as front of house or event planning or you can work in food operations or as a hotel manager and work more behind the scenes to maintain the smooth running of the business. KEY SKILLS Skills you will need are: Service- You will be providing a service for paying customers and ensuring they have a good time. Self discipline - You will need to be very organised to ensure everything runs smoothly. Generosity- You will need to do tasks for people which sometimes you may not receive explicit thanks for. Humility- You are taking care of others as you would expect to be taken care of. Communication - Depending on what job you do, you will need to communicate with the public, sometimes in their native language.

PARKLANDS HIGH SCHOOL CAREERS GUIDANCE POTENTIAL SALARY As an entry level Hotel manager, you can expect to earn roughly £21000 but as your experience grows and you move to different places, it can be up to £50000 if you’re good. KEY QUALIFICATIONS You will need 5 GCSEs which are grades 5-9, including English and Maths. There are also vocational qualifications you can complete in specialised areas (see below) or you can do an apprenticeship. Experience in this industry is always welcomed.
