WELCOME TO THE NEW SCHOOL TERM IN 2021 Students share their school bus experience from the previous school term.
After a long spell of distance learning, School Transport Services LLC (STS) was delighted to welcome students back to the school bus in September 2020. All our buses followed robust health and safety measures and precautions, in line with the highest international standards and guidance from the UAE authorities. Students who opted to attend class in school, shared their experience of the bus journey that had been specially prepared for the new term. Abhinandan who studies in Grade 9 at GEMS New Millennium School, said, “I was really excited to come back to school this year. And once I saw all the safety measures that STS and the school have been implementing, it really brought a sense of safety for me and my family. Before we get on to the bus, a temperature check is done to ensure that everybody on the bus is safe, and each seat is allocated so that proper social distancing is maintained. STS really has been doing a lot to make sure that we are safe this school year.”
In addition to our standard protocol, our buses underwent pre-trip and post-trip sanitisation with a minimum of two vehicle inspections a day. Training programmes were conducted for bus drivers and bus guardians on awareness and implementation of the new transport safety protocols. Agnus, Grade 11, Dubai American Academy, shared what she observed on the school bus. “Due to the pandemic, things have changed a bit, compared to last year. STS has actually made some changes to the bus system like putting up safety guidelines and posters inside the bus and having masks and hand sanitisers in case students need them. Thank you, STS!” Barbara Lubaczewska, Principal of Al Rabeeh Academy, Abu Dhabi, thanked the STS team for their timely services. “Thanks to the bus team for your excellent service to get the children to school and home, safely and on time. Brilliant service!” We have continued to implement these safety protocols in the current school term in 2021, to ensure that student transport with STS is always Safe, Timely, Smart.

FUEL UPGRADE
with Neutral Fuels’ Biofuel
STS has always been committed to supporting the reduction of carbon emissions and air pollution by optimising the time that our school buses are on the roads. STS school buses for GEMS Modern Academy recently upgraded its fuel to Neutral Fuels B20 biofuel. With a dedicated biofuel tank now installed within the school premises, refuelling time for drivers have reduced, resulting in increased productivity and decreased carbon emissions.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BIOFUEL INITIATIVE • GMA’s fleet of 126 school buses run on 5.5 million litres of biofuel annually. • Annual carbon emissions of the fleet of 126 school buses on regular diesel is 4,461,731 kilograms whereas the annual carbon emissions of the same fleet on biofuel is 3,569,385 kilograms. This is a difference of 892,346 kilograms annually. • By having a biofuel fueling station in the school, the GMA fleet saves 47,476 liters of fuel and 182,208 kilometers per year. • In addition, STS saves 5,700 wasted man hours and associated engine wear and tear on their vehicles from refueling on site as opposed to the 1,898 individual journeys to traditional fueling stations. • On a daily basis, each biofuel bus emits 20% less kilograms CO2 than a regular diesel bus.
