Event Enrollment Party Parent Reading Workshop Culture Week

The first four weeks of the new school year have flown by quickly. It has been a joy to see the children settle into school routines and start their first units of inquiry of the year, eager to try out newly acquired skills, curious to learn more every day. I have had opportunities to spend some time in different classrooms and enjoyed watching the activities: Kindergarten children singing along with the Language Coordinator, developing their vocabulary while having lots of fun …, 3rd wondering how the world was created and putting their thoughts into their creation stories …, students building their gross motor skills during

carefully structured playtimes in the playground …. The beginning of the school year also saw the start of new extracurricular learning experiences in our Wednesday Afternoon Program: Currently music, art and soccer workshops are offered in cooperation with Kansai International Music Academy, the artist Maki Schmok and GOALS English Soccer School. In these workshops our students find new challenges and benefit from the expertise of expert teachers and coaches while practicing their English language skills. If you are interested in this program, don’t hesitate to contact the Office. Learning academic concepts and skills is only part of the educational program, though. Equally important is the development

of strong social skills and emotional stability. Having good interpersonal and intrapersonal skills supports academic development and success. For many children the beginning of a new school year poses a special challenge as they return to school after a long summer together with their families, adjust to a new environment, culture and language after having moved to Japan from another country, join pre-kindergarten or kindergarten after having been taken care of by family members for most of their lives. As parents you can help your children develop social skills and emotional stability by showing confidence and pride in their independence and by developing a trustful partnership with their teachers. I wish you and your children a wonderful time in October!

Best regards,

Ursula Shioji

Ursula Shioji

Class Activities Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten

Mr. Seifert helped the children to correctly and carefully make super forward rolls on the mat. Each week they will practice and be introduced to new gymnastic skills.

The students showed Peter and Kookie how carefully they could balance on the stepping stones. They moved carefully to make sure they didn’t push anyone off another stepping stone.

Riding the trikes was a fun activity. Steering around the course required lots of concentration. It was important to check that we didn’t bump into anyone else on the course.
