The Republic of International Kids allowed all kids to have a passport they could get stamped by participating in different activities. There was a wide variety of fun to enjoy from face painting to Floor Hockey. Our school offered a fantastic Cress head planting activity and there was also the challenge of our balance beams, boards and obstacles for the kids to try . In all we had well over six hundred kids participating in the two options. Well done everyone

Classroom Activities ES Grade 1/2

The students in ES Grade 1/2 created some amazing board games that took the theme of organising themselves in the classroom. There were a number of key-points the students identified to make a good game.

- It has to have Game cards - It has to have a clear start and finish - It needs at least 9 game squares - It had to be playable

They played the games with peers to test that they worked.

Classroom Activities Preschool Preschool visited the Arboretum with Mr. White. They looked at how people used the Arboretum and identified different features of natural and human created environments. The environment was very different from Rokko Island.

Central Idea People interact with, use and value local environments in different ways.

We found many natural features and we also saw how people used the Arboretum in different ways. Some were looking after the forest park and others were using it to play, paint and study.

¨ Aktivitaten in der klasse GFL Grade 3/4 Inspiration - In connection with their unit on the changing nature of the Earth the students learned about life on a small island off Germany`s northern coast. They learned many new words related to the sea. In former times, many of the island`s inhabitants were pirates. The students watched a children`s video about a pirate finding a treasure chest. Imagination - The students were asked to visualize a scene in a pirate story. The children used mental imagery to help them find expressions in German. They used the image of a treasure box – Schatzkiste – to understand that a rich vocabulary – Wortschatz – helps us to communicate well. Creation - The students created a picture based on their mental images before they wrote. They collected the words they wanted to learn in their `Wortschatzkiste.` Reflection - The students reflected on what they had learned, how they had learned, why they had used certain techniques, what they enjoyed and how successful they had been. They did a great job using well-known and new words to combine them in sentences to make the sentences fit the images they had created. They were great risk takers, manipulating the vocabulary they had at their disposal skillfully so they could effectively express themselves.

Classroom activities - Poetry EFL Lessons on “Poetry” ACROSTIC POEMS ARE POEMS WHERE THE TOPIC IS WRITTEN VERTICALLY. THEN YOU HAVE TO MATCH THE SENTENCES WITH THE BEGINNING OF THE TOPIC'S LETTERS. HERE IS AN EXAMPLE WITH RAINBOW. THE RHYMING TECHNIQUE IS USED, TOO. BY FELIX

DS Grade 5 & 6 students learnt about different types of poetry and enjoyed the special effects that words can create. Here are their acrostic poems and alliteration work.

Rainbow in the sky Rain and sun is coming together A Rainbow has to do something with the weather. In the sky, you see the clouds and the sun. Near and far, everywhere is one. But you don't only see the sun Or is there another one. We see something else, but why. It rained, so we see a rainbow in the sky.

Planets in the space Light and heavy All around, here and there Near and far Enjoying helping space Time to time changing

Rising up high in the sky After raining sun comes out It's amazing you can shout Nice colours for you and me Big, bright arch above us to see Over the seas, over the mountains We are a group of friends! ACROSTIC POEM, HANNAH

Purple, orange, blue and red Light is Amazing New stars are shining Everywhere Today is the best day to see Stars and planets

ACROSTIC POEM, CHARLOTTE

Akrostichon

Er will stets meine Kirsche klauen, dafür will ich ihn verhauen.

bist. (Felix)

Classroom Activities DS vs/1/2 students learnt a poem, “If I Could Touch the Sky”, written by Natasha Josefowitz.

! ! !

If I could touch the sky I would grab a star and hang it in my room.

! ! !

If I could touch the sky I would pull down the moon and use it to light up my room.

! ! !

If I could touch the sky I would catch a cloud and use it for my pillow.

! ! ! !

! If I could touch the sky I would give away all the stars that are there to sprinkle everywhere.

Enjoy the students presenting the poem.

Student Led Conferences

The Student-led conference is not a normal teacher led conference. It is STUDENT LED in which the students are leading the parents through a variety of activities to enable an engagement and reflection on the learning each student has participated in over the year. It allows the students to share and lead in learning and reflection activities. Typically, there will be three or four activities that will be Led by the students, who will move from one to another. One of the most useful will be looking at the portfolio that each student has created and reflect over the year the different aspects of the learning contained in it. There will be other conferences with other parents occurring at the same time.

It is an opportunity for parents to engage in a deeper conversation about the work and the activities they have completed. Parents are expected to Listen, Praise and Ask questions of their child and the work they are displaying.

The Teacher will be there to support and observe the process as the students work with their families.

Prompts for Parents to ask...

• • • • •

Can you explain this to me? How did you do this? What I nofce about your work is… I was proud of you for… What would you like to learn more about?

PYP Information ‘Parent Pop In’ to the PYP Coordinator

Thursday 20th June 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. In the Library

This is an informal information session to give the parents and school community the opportunity to ask questions answered about the PYP curriculum. It will involve an opportunity to give you additional information about the PYP process and allow the school to develop a PYP Parent Workshop Program for 2013/2014.

PYP Workshops and Information 2012 -2013 This year much of the information about the PYP has been contained within the newsletter. Many of the class pages highlight an aspect of the PYP program or the curriculum. There is also information on different aspects of the PYP in the last pages of the Newsletter. There was also an opportunity during the Project Week to have a workshop with a slideshow looking at the role of the Inquiry Cycle in all of the classrooms of the school. It was an invaluable authentic opportunity to see how different aspects of the inquiry cycle are integral to the work completed in all of the classrooms of the school. It was ably hosted by Mr. O’Neill, Mrs. White and Ms. Selle. The students and Teachers did an amazing job of sharing the difference aspects of the Inquiry Cycle to the Parent community.
