Dear members of our school community,

!

It is been 151 days ago that I took responsibility as head of the school. It was a start into a new world, into a very different culture and into a fascinating and unique school. It was sometimes stressful, it was hard work but I always realized that it is the greatest opportunity in my working life to be a responsible member of this school community. I wished I could have sent my children to this school and I understand why our school constantly grows. We are attractive for students, parents and teachers at the same time and that is why…

!

101 students are now attending the Deutsche Schule Kobe/European School since March 31st!!!

We are bigger than ever but remain the family like school, that provides a challenging and caring learning environment.

The cherry trees blossom and accompany us into the warmer season, finally. There is a coincidence with the developments in our school. All of you who went to see the outstanding results of our ‘Project Week’ and the creative ‘Celebration of Books’, could see something like academic blossoming. The attractiveness of our school provides the basis for a better financial situation that helps to blossom in the field of new resources, equipment and a growing staff. There are going to be significant improvements in cooling our school.

!! !

Best wishes and enjoy this pleasant and Meaningful season Gerhard Lebherz, Principal

EVENTS - Celebration of Books

We all had chances to think about our favorite books and how stories can take us to another place, give us please and help us learn about something new. The children dressed up as a favorite character and thought about the IB learner profile they most represent: Communicator, Thinker, Caring, Principled, Risk Taker, Balanced, Inquirer, Knowledgeable, Open Minded, Reflective. We talked about why this character had this kind of Learner Profile. Finally, we followed the Tiger who came to Tea....and had parade.

our very own stories

2014/1/31/summative-assessment-for-

In the unit on Stories, the students learned that stories

stories

come in different forms. They can be found in books, pictures, songs, recounts (storytelling), dance, actions and in puppets too. For their summative task for this unit, the children were asked to create a story of their own. They were also asked how they want to present their stories. Their choices were narrowed down into three: book, puppet show or storytelling using the computer and their pictures (Voicethread).

Class Activities - Grade 3 & 4 ! Our knowledge of ecosystems allows us to aid in their conservation and protection During our unit about ecosystems the students did a fun activity to learn more about food chains and food webs. On the playground we started making food chains starting from the sun, then we passed a ball of yarn from the producers like plants to consumers of these plants and from the herbivores to the carnivores. After we made a lot of these food chains the students realised, that it actually isn't just chains but that it now looks more like a web! Then we tried to take out some of the animals and plants in our food web and the students realised how important it is to keep an ecosystem balanced because everything is connected!
