omas Charles “Tom” Dennis omas Charles “Tom” Dennis, age 73, of Bowerston went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, May 4. Born Dec. 2, 1944 in Dennison he was a son of the late Charles and Iris ompson Dennis. Tom graduated from Scio High School in 1962 after attending grade school in New Rumley. On Sept. 16, 1967 he married the love of this life, Gail Timmerman Dennis. ey were blessed with a daughter Ginger Dennis of Dublin, a son Andrew (Karen) Dennis of Hilliard; four granddaughters Abby and Emily Hardesty and Jordyn and Courtney Dennis all who survive. Also surviving are

his loving loving family that includes his sisters Shirley Clark of Washington and Barbara (Tom) Carr of New Philadelphia; a brother Bill (Mary Lou) Dennis of Jewett; four nephews; three nieces; seventeen great nephews and nieces and farming buddies Calvin and Tracy Horn Logan. In addition to his parents Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Red and Winnie Timmerman and a brother-in-law Jeff Timmerman. Tom was a member of the Scio United Methodist Church, Harrison Lodge #219 F&AM, the DP Society and the Western Grill breakfast club. Willis Eugene “Gene” Copeland Willis Eugene “Gene” Copeland, of Scio passed away ursday, May 3, at the Harrison County Home, Cadiz just three days before his 92nd birthday. Born May 6, 1926 in Scio he was a son of the late Jess and Lucy Wolfe Copeland. Gene honorably served in the US Army European eater during WWII. After returning from the war he laid track for the Leesville Mine and then he worked for the Scio Pottery Co for 9 years. In 1954 he went to work at Y&O Coal in Cadiz and retired in 1981 after 27 years of service. Gene was a 46 year member of the Scio American Legion Post

#482 who loved to hunt and spend time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Maxine Wright Copeland on November 12, 1996; sons Jay and Tod Copeland; sisters Wanda Dull and Ruth Kenan and a step brother Leonard “Bud” Copeland. Surviving are his granddaughters Jesse, Casey and Callie Copeland and a nephew Leonard “Lenny” Copeland of Scio. Honoring Gene’s wishes there will be no calling hours or service. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Scio following his cremation. Koch Funeral Home, Scio has been entrusted with his services.

elma Irene Miller elma Irene Miller, 87, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Scio, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 2, at her home. She was born June 29, 1930 in Scio, Ohio, a daughter of the late Charles A. and Verna Bell Huff Newell. Mrs. Miller was a retired employee of the Scio Pottery Company. She enjoyed county fairs and going to the casinos. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Fred Allen Newell.

Surviving are two daughters, Althea (Tom) Mills of Cadiz and Sheila Bellinger of Boca Raton; a granddaughter; two great granddaughters; two great great granddaughters; and her special buddy, Big Bear. Services were held Wednesday at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home in Cadiz with Rev. Robert Hooker officiating. Burial followed at Tunnel Hill Cemetery, Bowerston, Ohio. Dallas E. Haines Dallas E. Haines, 88, died on May 7, at his home in Bolivar. He was born Dec. 10, 1929 in Scio. Preceding him in death were his parents, John Delmar and Nellie M. (ompson) Haines; and his brother, Delmar D. Haines. He was a graduate of Scio High School, served in

the U.S. Army in Germany, and was an active volunteer in the Scio American Legion Post 482 for many years. Dallas was a member of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association and worked as a water well driller for 46 years. He is survived by his beloved, Rita; his two sisters, Lois Lechner of Illinois, and Gala (Hilton) Muntz of Michigan. He will be lovingly remembered by Rita Otte’s sisters, Jean Boller and Barbara Leyda; numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Funeral arrangements will be through the Cremation Society of Ohio. A private celebration of his life will be held by his family. Dorothea M. Patterson Dorothea M. Patterson passed away April 30, at the age of 86, born Nov. 6, 1931 in Pleasant City, Ohio. Daughter of the late John and Mildred Spurrier. She was a 1949 graduate of Pleasant City High School. Retired from Harts and as a church pre-school teacher. Member of Spring Road Church of Christ. She was very involved with her children as a Girl Scout leader and room mother. Survived by her children, Sally (Patrick) Patton of Cadiz, Ohio, Cindy Taylor (fiance', Randy Ott) of Delaware and Jim (Laurie) Patterson of Westerville; grandchildren, Cory Patton (Erika Williams), Erica (Travis) Case, Trisha Patton, triplets, Markus, Megan and Matthew Patterson; great-grandsons, Drake Case, William "Liam" and

George Oliver Patton; brother, Reuben C. Spurrier of Easton, PA; sister-in-law, Freida Patterson of Fresno, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.
