Schier is a privately-owned specialty manufacturer of 100% USA-made, high-capacity, lifetime guaranteed grease interceptors for commercial kitchens. In the last 20 years we have grown from a small regional company to the most widely specified and inventoried brand of grease interceptors in the U.S. sold through plumbing wholesale. Our expertise in navigating codes, standards, compliance, specifications and installations is unparalleled in the industry.

Why grease interceptors are important

Grease interceptors are typically required by code and are installed to receive flow from grease-laden kitchen fixtures. The purpose is to separate fats, oils, greases (FOG) and solids from kitchen drain waste before it enters the sewer system. When FOG builds up in the sewer system, the flow path becomes reduced or blocked resulting in backups in the kitchen, outside the building and further upstream. System backups are referred to as sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) by the pretreatment and environmental community and are bad for public health and the environment.

» A grease interceptor is only effective when it’s sized, installed and maintained properly. A properly sized and maintained grease interceptor will help prevent SSOs.
