The Abbeville County First Steps Mission is to help prepare children for school and to work together to achieve this goal.

Abbeville County First Steps has had a very unusual year with COVID. While things continue to change during this pandemic, ACFS continues to operate the Nurturing Parenting home visitation program through drop offs with the families, Nurturing Parenting Groups, and Nurturing Fathers which has continued to operate through Zoom.. Abbeville County First Steps is planning to move back to Abbeville by January 1, 2022 to continue partnerships within the community.

To strengthen parents and teachers with appropriate practices that develop social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills of Abbeville County’s young children.

NURTURING PARENTING PROGRAM

T he Nurturing Parenting Prog ram is a comp ilati on of evidence-b ased p rog rams desig ned to offer long term, more comp rehensive p arenting education. Parents & T heir I nfants, T oddlers & Preschoole rs p articip at e in a Home Visitation Prog ram that utilizes a p arenting curriculum that allows more interactive time b etween p arent and child.

NURTURING PARENTING PARENT TRAINING T he Nurturing Parenting Parent G roup s are a comp rehensive g roup-b ased p arenting p rog ram for p arents of young children. Sessions are offered weekly and p arents learn skills needed for a healthy nurturing p arenting lifestyle. Clients must comp lete a total of 1 5 sessions to receive a certificate of p rog ram comp letion. T his p rog ram is op erated inhouse and the g oal is to increase Parental involvement and reduce ab use and neg lect
