The BOCES Career & Technical Education students were sent out into the world with the words of District Superintendent, Dr. Robert M. Dufour, who spoke of his love for the musical “Man of La Mancha.” Dufour quoted from that musical’s most popular song entitled “The Impossible Dream,” in which the hero of the play, Don Quixote de la Mancha, sings about his quest to “reach the unreachable star.” “Your star is reachable,” said Dufour, “your dreams are not impossible. You proved that by completing your career and tech programs and receiving your certificates. Thank you for giving us the privilege of being your teachers.”
We’re so proud of you! Love, Mom, Dad, Haley, Larry & William Congratulations C&T Class of 2019!

For some, the road to a high school diploma is easier than others. Despite whatever challenges were placed in front of them, 17 exceptional seniors persevered and earned their diplomas on June 14 from Sullivan BOCES in a ceremony at the Rubin Pollack Education Center in Liberty. Through hard work and the support of their family, friends and teachers dedicated to BOCES’ mission of, “Providing exceptional programs and services for students of all abilities,” these young men and women are ready for whatever the next chapter in their lives brings. Sullivan County Manager Josh Potosek delivered the keynote address to the Class of 2019, encouraging them to never stop learning and adapting to change. He cited Amazon as an example and
their CEO Jeff Bezos, who said when asked about his successful company’s future, “I predict one day Amazon will fail. Amazon will go bankrupt.” While that may seem unlikely at this moment, it could very well happen in the future due to the constant transformation of technology. Therefore, Potosek told the graduates, “Keep learning, and keep up with technological change. A profession that you may be successful in one day could require an entirely different skill set tomorrow.” Finally, Potosek told them to focus on what really matters. “For as important as a career is, it is equally important to have balance in life,” he said. “Cherish the time you have with your friends and family. They are not only the most important thing in life but are going to be your support when you are faced with adapting to change. Happiness isn’t going to come solely from a job that earns you enough money to live the way you want. You have to enjoy what you are doing but also be able to share that success with others around you.” He added that as important as one’s career is, it will never be as important as the time spent with family and friends. “To sum it up, never stop learning, embrace change, and cherish the time with your family and friends,” he said. “I wish you all the greatest success and happiness in life. And give yourself credit: You already have succeeded in graduating high school in the face

GRAHAMSVILLE — Over 200 students were acknowledged for their achievements during the 2019 Sullivan County BOCES Career & Tech Recognition Night held on Thursday, June 20 at Tri-Valley High School’s Bernstein Theatre. Executive Principal of the BOCES Career & Technical Education Program, Scott D. Palermo, welcomed and congratulated the students, and thanked those who coordinated the ceremony, the support staff, the district’s Board of Education, and the program’s school districts. He told the graduates it was time for the present to become the future, and the future was now in their hands. Student speaker Abrielle Milling reminded her fellow graduates that they had “taken a different path than the regular high school track, and that is something to be celebrated. … We are now adults with our whole lives ahead of us, and life is ours to define.” Tri-Valley’s Halie Travis, who also addressed the graduating class, said, “As we step through these doors tonight, we will be working tirelessly to make our community a better place …” She challenged her peers to “keep using the skills you have learned from your teachers, and never stop moving forward as your thirst for knowledge continues.” In addition to a multitude of special presentations, awards and scholarships, students received Certificates of Completion in the following categories: Animal Science, Auto Body, Auto Technology, Basic Welding, Construction,
