scratch every day using fresh ingredients. The menu is filled with several delicious items including Nelly’s favorite, Rabo (Oxtail), as well as other tasty chicken, beef, pork, seafood and goat dishes. A variety of soups and empanadas are also offered. For vegetarians, there’s rice and beans, yuca (the root of the Cassava plant) and of course plantains. If something sparks your curiosity but you’re unsure if you’ll like it, customers can sample different items so you can try before you buy. Also, don’t forget about your sweet tooth. Try a slice of a Dominican cake with guava and pineapple, flan, tres leches and much more. Nelly’s also caters and there’s an event area located inside the restaurant that people can rent. While Nelly’s atmosphere makes you feel at home, the family can always get bigger, so make sure to bring your friends. There’s plenty of seating available both inside the restaurant and outdoors. The food isn’t Nelly’s only attraction. On Saturday night when the restaurant closes, it transforms into Nelly’s Lounge (opens at 10 p.m.) with a DJ, music, dancing and drinks for sale at the bar where you can have fun with your friends, family and meet new people. Nelly’s has become more than a business on Broadway, but a fabric of the local community. J U N E / J U LY 2 0 1 8

Everyone at Nelly’s feels like family. Bring friends and relatives to socialize and enjoy a meal. On a cooler summer day in the Catskills, try one of Nelly’s Dominican soups; or one of her hearty stews.

the (not so) general store

arrowsburg, NY, is a great place to visit with a mix of both local residents and individuals from all over the world, which many have made this hamlet their home. Since it opened a year ago, Narrowsburg Proper has become, the not so general, general store. The store completes the wonderful shops on Narrowsburg’s Main Street. Joan and Ron Santo opened the shop as a spin-off of their other business, Narrowsburg Fine Wine and Spirits, which they opened in

2012. Narrowsburg Proper features many amazing products, some of which are local, domestic or international. “The shop is constantly evolving. Items from local Mom and Pop shops from my old neighborhood in South Brooklyn, to food imported from the UK and France. The men’s clothing is curated from travels to Portugal, as well as domestic. There are items for babies and children as well...most importantly items to help you make that ‘proper’ cock-
