A BLUE TIE AFFAIR Why are we wearing blue? Thirty years ago, a grandmother in Virginia used a blue ribbon to remember her grandson who died at the hands of his abuser. It soon became a national symbol of support for child abuse awareness. In 2008, the blue pinwheel was introduced as the new symbol for the cause. Today, blue continues to be the nationally-recognized color to show support for child abuse prevention. A “Blue Tie Affair� means we are inviting guests to wear blue cocktail attire and join us as we demonstrate our commitment to child abuse prevention.
