The SCAC The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) is an NCAA Division III conference that has been in operation since 1962. Currently an eight-member entity with institutions in Colorado, Louisiana and Texas, the SCAC boasts some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation. SCAC schools are consistently ranked among the top colleges and universities in the nation in such respected publications as Barron’s, Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report. The SCAC is currently comprised of Austin College of Sherman, Texas; Centenary College of Shreveport, Louisiana; Colorado College of Colorado Springs, Colorado; University of Dallas of Irving, Texas; Schreiner University of Kerrville, Texas; Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas; Texas Lutheran University of Seguin, Texas, and Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas. McMurry University in Abilene, Texas is an affilaite member of the conference in men’s and women’s swimming and diving. As members of NCAA Division III, SCAC schools are committed to the core principle that participation in sports should be solely from student interest and enjoyment of athletic competition, and that no financial aid shall be given to any student which is conditional upon athletic ability or participation in intercollegiate sports. SCAC member institutions support students in their efforts to reach high levels of performance by providing them with adequate facilities, competent coaching and appropriate competitive opportunities with students from similar institutions. The SCAC and its member institutions are committed to maintaining high academic standards. The member institutions are committed to the principle that a quality college athletics program is beneficial to the well-being of an institution in that it benefits the entire campus community as well as the studentathletes. On the national athletics stage, the SCAC has had its fair share of success - both in terms of team championships (eight) and individual championships (33). Specific to swimming and diving, the conference has produced five individual natioal champions. At the 2003 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, Matt Smith of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the 100 yard breaststroke to give the league its first-ever individual swimming title. In 2010, Trinity (Tex.) University teammates Lindsay Martin and Hayley Emerick claimed individual titles in the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, respectively. And at the 2012 NCAA Championships, Jordan DeGayner of Colorado College won the men’s 200 free while Ruth Hahn of Trinity (Tex.) University continued the Tigers’ diving dominance with an individual title on the 3-meter board. Two years later, the “new” SCAC returned to national prominence as Stephen Culberson of Trinity (Tex.) University won the 100 free at the 2014 NCAA Championships. The city of Shenandoah, Texas and the SCAC will host the 2017 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships at the Conroe ISD Natatorium. These will be the fourth national championships the conference has hosted.
