Hindsight 2020 Festival Theme A Decade Of Mobile Filmmaking Growth Around The World As we enter into this new decade, we celebrate all that we accomplished since 2010, in the mobile filmmaking community and industry. We briefly take you through the history and the future of storytelling through video and film. The end of the 2000's brought us to launch our film festival in 2009 as a platform and space for people who were experimenting and tinkering with video cameras on mobile phones. The challenge of creating movies for the big screen in an official film festival setting was exciting! The result was that it inspired many people all over the world who were interested or dreamed of making movies but had no budget or camera. We envisioned a world where everything you could do with a traditional video camera could be accomplished with mobile phones as the technology improved. The momentum that resulted brought us far beyond that vision. Smartphones have expanded the industry of film and video as a niche opportunity for storytelling through creativity and ingenuity. It is not solely the size of the phone but the computing elements, sensors, algorithms and connectivity to the internet, that have brought the possibilities of what we can create to a new realm.

IMFF 2018 Filmmakers

A Special Presentation #HindsightMobileFilm Join the founder of the pioneer International Mobile Film Festival, Susy Botello and pioneer founder & CEO of Filmic Pro Neill Barham as they take you on a journey in hindsight of smartphone storytelling through the mobile film phenomenon. A selection of 11 short films that won awards during our film festivals over the years will bring a bit of nostalgia to the program. *Sunday, April 26. See Schedule for time.

Hindsight 2020 #HindsightMobileFilm

Historical Awards by International Mobile Film Festival The idea that you could create a film festival exclusive to films shot with mobile phones, to screen each film on a big screen in a live venue setting, complete with a red carpet, was launched in 2009. It took almost three full years to realize the idea into a venue with enough films to inspire and build a global community. As part of the Hindsight 2020 theme, we commemorate each award selected by judges through the years from 2012 - 2019.

Our Programs

A brief history of the programs by S. Botello Productions™. SBP was established in July 2006. Based in California, SBP was active as a professional media production company providing services to organizations, individuals and companies. Founded by Susan Botello from San Diego, it provided graphic design, video production and some independent film work. Susan's professional experience began in 1998 with a local video production company. The idea of the International Mobile Media Film Festival began with a vision after September 11 that began to conceptualize in 2003. In 2004, the idea of a film festival was postponed because Susan wanted the festival to not be a website but a traditional festival. In 2009, the festival was officially launched publicly with other programs in mind to support it. The Mobile Film School was conceptualized at around the same time of the festival. However, SBP waited until the first festival took place to announce it during the inaugural festival and held it's first workshop during IMFF2012. Mobile Film School officially launched in September 2012 with two collaborative partners in the mobile film industry. It has since provided a number of workshops, master classes and a mobile filmmaking bootcamp. It also hosts workshops during each film festival. Our platform for content creators is MobileChannel.TV as a Mobile Film Network Distribution Channel. It was launched in 2013 on Independence Day: Celebrating the Independence of filmmakers and video content creators. MFTV was revamped "IndiePendence" Day 2019. If you are a shooting your films and videos with your smartphone, we would like to include you in our network. Network Distribution is part of MFTV. We invite you to join MFTV as an opportunity to distribute your film online to all devices. SBP Podcast is The Voice Of Mobile Film™ for everyone who ever wanted to or is curious about making movies and videos using smartphones. It launched in October 2017. It mostly publishes a roughly one hour long episode once a week with a guest. As we celebrate 10 years in the mobile film industry, we have come to make many friends all over the world who appreciate what we do. Many filmmakers who attend and/or participate in our film festivals, mobile film events, workshops have become part of a global growing community. We decided to create a hashtag: #MobililzeStories to help them receive support online by others and us. But we also wanted to create a monthly themed smartphone video contest and local events where people can attend locally, connect, learn, share and support each other. A little mingling too. MobilizeStories is a mobile film community network. © 2020 S. Botello Productions™ All rights reserved.
