On Eagles’ Wings

Thinking back (which I often find myself doing now), as a student at either Auburndale or St. Benedict from 1979-1991, many of my best memories include parents. Not only my own, but everyone’s. I remember Richard’s mom working the concession stand at the basketball games. I remember Chris’s parents having a Homecoming breakfast at their house every year. I remember Jon’s dad leading us in prayer at different events. There were parents that paid for pizza at the class party, parents that donated our team bat bags because they worked for Nike, moms that were beauticians who came in to do hair and makeup for us before our theatre performances and other moms with sewing skills that altered costumes and uniforms. All of them, getting to know us along the way. They made a difference. They made a difference with their gifts. They made a difference with their time. It is still the same here now. Whether parents are dropping off forgotten lunches, donating items for our various fundraising events or volunteering their time - they are still here. Still doing the same things. Still making a difference. And not to my surprise, I have spotted some of the parents from my school memories still in the bleachers cheering on the Eagles. Now they are here as supportive grandparents. Of course they are. What a great place to be! What a great place to be from!

The 2011-12 Annual Fund for SBA Not too shabby, SBA! Our Lasting Legacies Annual Fund kicked off in October and we are marching right along! As of March 5, 2012 we total $280,108.09, with $182,953.21 in restricted giving and $97,154.88 in unrestricted giving. Our goals were a little lofty, but can still be reached with a little help from our friends. We would like to raise $200,000 in unrestricted gifts and we would LOVE to have 200 first-time donors. We are not close to either of those goals and need some assistance! Every gift processed this year has been different and every gift processed has been meaningful. Some gifts are in the tens and some gifts are in the thousands. Please don’t ever think that if it is not a substantial amount, that it doesn’t count because nothing is further from the truth. Every day those gifts add up and every day they make a difference to someone here.
We can’t wait for the next Lasting Legacies report to say that we exceeded our goals because our wonderful friends and supporters rose to the challenge. Thanks for all you do for SBA. Way to make a difference!
