Parent Survey Reminder (The following was emailed to all families last week. This is a reminder that the survey will remain open to until February 2nd.) As I mentioned in a recent e-mail letter, the Diocese of Memphis, SBA and all our Diocesan schools are conducting a parent survey – for multiple reasons of course. First and foremost, we want to make sure we are hearing from the people we are trying to serve. Much of what we have accomplished through the years has come from your ideas. And in doing the obvious, we also benefit by meeting the expectations of the SACS organization (Southern Association of College and Schools) that accredits all our schools. Our SACS accreditation status allows colleges and universities to know the excellent standards that we maintain so they will continue to highly regard our students’ academic accomplishments. The link is http://www.advanc-ed.org/survey/public/0065246 and it will remain open until Feb. 2nd. (If clicking on it does not take you directly there, please paste it into your browser.) Just so you know, all responses will be anonymous and the questions you will see are the same ones going to all of our schools. As I mentioned in the letter, SACS has determined that a significant parental response rate is required to continue with our own accreditation. SACS asks that you complete one survey for each child you have enrolled at SBA (which unfortunately requires linking up two different times.) We have been fortunate to enjoy a much higher response rate for surveys we have sent in the past. So please continue supporting us as you have. If you have any technical questions about the survey, you can e-mail AdvancEd at contactus@advanc-ed.org or call 888-413-3669, Mon – Fri, 8-5, EST. If there are other questions, feel free to contact Dr. Elizabeth Fischer, our Director of Academic Affairs, at fischere@sbaeagles.org As always, we thank you for all your help,

George Valadie, SBA

NEWS FROM HOME AND SCHOOL

National Honor Society induction was a great event. Wonderful to see so many of our students honored for their hard efforts. Thank you to our team who set up this special event for the honorees and their families. We appreciate your efforts. Next up, the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. Our team has a special event planned for the teachers and staff. I’m sure they can use additional volunteers. Contact Beth Jackson, Angie Valadie or Cynthia Shah for how you can help. (aubreyandbeth@att.net, angie@valadie.com, cynthiashah@gmail.com) Our next BIG event is the Annual Fashion Show benefiting the Annual Fund. This is the only school wide event that we have to raise money for the annual fund. The Annual Fund helps our school with tuition assistance, technology innovations and operational needs. We hope you will help us out with the event by volunteering. To make it easy, we have once again set up volunteer options on sign up genius. You can volunteer to set up for the event, work the event, clean up after the event or donate an item or gift cards or cash. Follow the link below. No gift is too small (or too large) and if you have any questions, please contact Lori Regis or Romy Schaaf. (regisl@sbaeagles.org / rbschaaf64@att.net)

Simple Ways to Help….

You wouldn’t BELIEVE the difference it makes!

SBA Eagle Bucks Gift Card Program The SBA Eagle Bucks Program allows you to earn money for our school programs while shopping! Just buy your gift cards from us! They will make GREAT Christmas gifts! To place your order, you can fill out the form on our website sbaeagles.org or you can stop by the office for a form. We have many gift cards in stock in the office, but orders are placed on a weekly basis. SBA receives a percentage of the sale of the gift card.

Kroger Community Rewards If you shop at Kroger, you more than likely have a Kroger Plus card on your keychain. If you go to Kroger.com and create an account using your Plus number, you can select St. Benedict at Auburndale as your Community Rewards Program organization of choice. A portion of every shopping trip you make using your Kroger Plus card will then go to SBA!

Target REDcard Program Target’s Take Charge of Education Program donates millions of dollars to education each year by giving 1% of your purchases at Target back to your eligible school. Please designate SBA as your school of choice for their Take Charge of Education program. It is easy and very effective. Apply in the store or go online to Target.com/tcoe.

Coke Rewards for Schools Program Purchase your favorite Coca-Cola products to get the codes. Go to mycokerewards.com/school and sign in or register to become a member. Enter your codes to get points and then search for our school to donate points. St. Benedict can accumulate points and then choose items for our classrooms from their online catalog.

For more information on any of these easy ways to help SBA, please contact the Development Office at 260-2892 or email regisl@sbaeagles.org. Every bit counts and it all adds up, so thank you for your participation in any of these programs that benefit our school.

January 2013 Dear Sophomore Families, St. Benedict is pleased to announce our partnership with an online test prep program, ePrep. EPrep utilizes practice tests, video study halls, video tutorials, and much more to help students improve their SAT, ACT, and PSAT scores. This program is free for all of our sophomores and juniors. During the middle of January, Laura David, the new 10th grade Counselor, will be reviewing this program with your sophomore student in English class. Students will create a password that they will need to log-in each time. Every student’s account will be active from now until January of senior year. EPrep is a program for the students to use at home at their leisure. We encourage you to review this program with your student. Please do not create a new account, but rather log-in with your student’s email address and password so we’ll have enough accounts for all of our sophomore and junior students. We include this passage to give you a fuller description of the program: “EPrep successfully uses expert instructors to deliver a student-adaptable learning experience that patrons can access at the library or remotely from home. Using a proprietary video delivery platform that replicates the private tutor experience, ePrep makes test preparation easy. All of ePrep’s study programs employ the proven practice-grade-review cycle of learning: Students take practice tests under timed conditions; have them graded online; and immediately launch into video reviews. EPrep’s Study Hall tracks student progress throughout each course and guides remedial efforts, while Wordsmith encourages vocabulary building. A Parent Center allows parents to track student progress non-intrusively, while ePrep’s Study Scheduler helps students stay on track.” Details on ePrep’s video test preparation service can be found at http://www.eprep.com/ . To login your student’s account simply go to http://school.eprep.com/auburndalehstn/login and type in his/her email address and password. We hope you can partner with us in encouraging your student to take full advantage of this user-friendly, instructional tool. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your student’s counselor. Sincerely, SBA Guidance
