An Interview with
JAMIE YETTER Founder/President of Covered Goods
What makes the holidays special for you and your family? I live out of state from the rest of my family, and while I LOVE being in Southern California, it can be tough to be so far away from loved ones! I know there are a lot of mamas reading who can relate to what I’m talking about. That being said, there’s something really special about the coming together of extended family during the holidays—and the renewed focus on tradition. It’s something I don’t get to enjoy regularly—and I think that’s what makes this time of year even more meaningful (for me and the kids!). What are you coveting this season that you hope to receive during the holidays? I’m a single mom of four kids: Lyza (10), Cyndal (8), Alice (4) and Troy (2). Life with four can certainly be busy—and it’s sometimes hard to really slow down and appreciate the small things. During this season—and throughout the upcoming year—I’m really hoping to take the time to be present. Present for my kids, present for my loved ones, and present for myself. I also want to look for more opportunities to teach my children valuable lessons—lessons about strength, love and giving. I think the spirit of charity so many of us feel during the holiday season is incredibly special. I hope to keep this spirit of charity active throughout 2018 (and beyond!).
What are some of the special traditions that you and your family share? Ohhh…we have so many special traditions I’m getting excited just thinking about them! In the spirit of giving, we do a family service project every year. We’ve done everything from making blankets, to preparing food, and serving in kitchens. I try to get my older kids involved in deciding what our focus will be—they’re mature enough for it! We also love decorating our tree, and dressing up to replay the nativity live. And how can we talk about the holidays without mentioning the food! We always spend an afternoon making pizzelle cookies (and eating them, of course). What is a childhood memory that has stuck with you all of these years? When I was a kid we would open pajamas on Christmas Eve. It’s something I now do with my own kids—who would ALWAYS beg to open a present ahead of time. As an added bonus, the kiddos look pretty cute for pictures in new pajamas ;). I also remember making divinity candy and fruit cookies with my grandparents—those treats are still some of my favorites and the thought of them makes my heart swell! What are some of the ways that you give back during the holiday season? I feel so fortunate to be making a living doing something I love—but getting here hasn’t been easy. As I said earlier, I’m aiming to keep the spirit of charity alive all year (and not just for a few months). That being said, we do ramp up our giving during the month of December, with the family service projects I mentioned, and some initiatives as a company. Every November and December we donate our Covered Goods® four-in-one nursing covers to hospitals around the United States for NICU care.
