FIAT Italian Automobile Factory of Turin
Fiat story begins in 1900. The Italian entrepreneur Giovanni Agnelli with a group of local investors established the first Fiat factory in Turin, Italy. Giovanni Agnelli named the car company Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (FIAT) Fiat soon became one of the best selling car companies in Italy and Europe in the following 100 years. Nowadays, Fiat is a symbol of Italy’s technological and creative enterprise. Fiat, currently FCA, is the world’s seventh-largest auto maker company.
The Ferreros
The “legend” of Ferrero dates back to the 1940s when Piera and Pietro, Michele Ferrero’s parents, transformed a pastry shop into a factory in Alba in Piemonte. It wasn’t easy to find ingredients because of the war but Pietro Ferrero didn’t give up and decided to exploit the only and most common ingredient of the area: the hazelnuts. It was a great success. As soon as the World War ended, it was the first family to open factories abroad in the confectionery sector extending their popularity all over the world.
CHIARA BURBERI
“BE CURIOUS, ENTHUSIAST AND LOOK FOR THE GOOD OPPORTUNITY- DON’T WASTE TIME” Chiara Burberi, cofounder and CEO Redooc.com At the beginning of 2013 Chiara worked as a business trainer with a young colleague Nicolò Ammendola in several important firms. They realized that something had to change and much more had to be done for young students and their education such as helping them to improve their skills in an easier way. After analyzing the OCSE reports, they realized that young students had difficulty in learning STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering). In 2014 Redooc.com was created, the first Italian digital platform where there are videos, stories and exercises for students of different grades. Her aim was to make Maths popular within everyone’s reach, she has always thought that Maths is a tool, a daily skill just like reading and writing.
GIANLUCA SPORTARO “creating your business is not impossible in Calabria”
Gianluca Sportaro was born in Bisignano in the province of Cosenza. He is a digital entrepreneur. In 2005 at the age of 19, he created with his brother an info portal: Bisignanesi.it. In 2007 they founded an advertising agency Nexus related to graphics and marketing. In 2013 he worked as advisor for the consulting company Nina London Ltd for English and Italian start-ups. In 2015 he founded ARTIST®, a streetwear clothing brand with an innovative design, using modern printing technologies. He wanted to bring the Italian brand into the streetwear fashion. Nowadays he sells his clothes all over Europe, India, Taiwan, Japan and China. Through his videos he suggests how to create a start-up in Calabria and to reorganize it by sharing all his ideas.
Sonia Peronaci
Sonia was born in Milan in 1967. Her father was from Catanzaro and her mother from South Tyrol. Since she was 6 she helped cooking in her father’s restaurant. Before becoming a business consultant she did several jobs, working in pubs and touristic villages. In 2006 she founded with her partner the food website Giallo Zafferano, later soniaperonaci.it. During the day they both were business consultants and in the evening they transformed themselves in food bloggers. They understood the opportunities that the web could offer and they explained it to other people but only a few believed them. The web wasn’t considered a great source to invest in, but just a passing fancy. Today Sonia Peronaci is one of the most famous food influencer in Italy.
Guglielmo
Guglielmo Papaleo was the founder of the GUGLIELMO S.P.A. In 1935 he was a shop assistant in a food shop in the historic centre of Catanzaro. After eight years of work as an employee he decided to start up his own shop. He opened it on the main street of the city and had the brilliant idea to use a small coffee machine in order to let customers taste his unique aroma. In 1947, with sacrifice and difficulties he began the real activity of production and sale of coffee. Ten years later he carried out the first roasting and set up centralized warehouses, production department and administrative offices. He realized that not so many people knew him and started to launch the first advertising campaigns. In 1950 he opened the first Guglielmo Coffee Bar. Today the business is run by his heirs who succeed in combining tradition and modern technology. The GUGLIELMO SPA is located in the wonderful Bay of Squillace, in Copanello. It is one of the largest entrepreneurial realities in CALABRIA and is present on the national and foreign markets as well.
RUBBETTINO PUBLISHING Company
Rubbettino Publishing House was founded in 1972 by Rosario Rubbettino at the age of 31. Even as a student he had already distinguished himself for writing articles for school journal. He was soon attracted by the local typography where he went to print his articles. When he took the diploma as accountant he began to work as secretary of a middle school but after a little while he left his job to start his own business. In 1973 he made his debut as a publisher in Soveria Mannelli. In the years immediately following the start-up, the printing house was transformed into a modern printing company which today offers printing services to many other Italian publishing houses. Today Rubbettino Publishing is run by his two sons, Florindo and Marco. Florindo is the CEO of the society and Marco is the COO.
AZZURRA DI LORENZO
The designer Azzurra Di Lorenzo - a prestigious brand in Italian fashion. She was born in Calabria in 1986. Since she was a child she spent her time in her grandparents’ shop, a little haberdashery where she was enchanted by ribbons, laces, cloths and buttons. She has always dreamt of becoming a great stylist. Her dream came true. At the age of 18 she left her town and went to Milan to study fashion. At the age of 33 she opened her first atelier in the centre of Milan. In 2018 she opened her second atelier in Soverato. She is the evidence that if you believe in something you can reach it. She conveys a great message to young people based on self-trust and courage.
LUCA SGRO’ LABORATORIO ORAFO
Luca Sgrò laboratory is located in Montepaone, Catanzaro, Calabria Region. His field of application is the Italian Jewelry Manufacturing Industry. He designs and creates original creations by hand, attaining a unique style, inspired by the jewels which were the emblems of the populations who, in the past, inhabited the region, such as the Etruscans and the Greeks.
Michele Stingi
“Pasta Stingi� was founded in 2013 as a start-up by Michele Stingi in Serra San Bruno in the province of Vibo Valentia. Before creating his business in Calabria he worked in Milan with a specialized firm in the production of pasta, acquiring the working and drying techniques of the products. Michele turned back to his hometown and started his business despite the terrible crisis of the period. It was a challenge that was won. He participated to Expo 2015 and it was a great success. Nowadays Pasta Stingi deals with several genuine products and is exported throughout Europe, China, America and United Arab Emirates.
