IT IS THE ESTABLISHED PRACTICE OF THE LEAGUE TO INCLUDE PROVISIONS IN ALL OF ITS CONSERVATION EASEMENTS THAT ALLOW THE LEAGUE TO CONDUCT, AT LEAST, ANNUAL MONITORING ACTIVITIES ON THE PROPERTY INVOLVED AND TO BRING ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS, IF NECESSARY, TO PREVENT VIOLATIONS OR RESTORE THE PROPERTY TO ITS EXISTING CONDITION PRIOR TO A VIOLATION.

FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1, DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION MISSION: PEACE AND BEAUTY SO THESE WONDERS OF THE NATURAL WORLD FLOURISH. IN FY 2009-10, THE LEAGUE PROTECTED 347 ACRES BY ACQUIRING LAND AT A COST OF $4.1 MILLION. THE LEAGUE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING TO PROTECT A FURTHER 5,630 ACRES OF REDWOOD FORESTS AND SUPPORTING LANDSCAPES BY PROVIDING BRIDGE FINANCING OF $5.35 MILLION TOWARDS THE $36 MILLION ACQUISITION COST OF A PROPERTY ON THE SONOMA COUNTY COAST, WHICH CONTAINS A SUBSTANTIAL REDWOOD-DOMINATED FOREST AND IS CONSIDERED A HIGH PRIORITY AREA ACCORDING TO THE LEAGUE'S MASTER PLAN. IN ADDITION THE LEAGUE DIVESTED 382 ACRES TO STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES FOR PERMANENT PROTECTION AND PUBLIC ACCESS. WE ALSO WORKED TO RESTORE LOGGED FORESTS, INCLUDING PLANTING OVER 15,000 TREES, THINNING 558 ACRES AND REMOVING 3 MILES OF LOGGING ROADS.

FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4B, PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: EASEMENTS WE HOLD. WE ALSO HAVE MANAGED AND VISITED ALL PROPERTIES IN OUR OWNERSHIP, INCLUDING ACTIVE WORK ON SITE PLANS AND RESTORATION OF A 400-ACRE COASTAL PROPERTY. IN ADDITION, WE WORKED WITH CONSULTANTS AND STATE PARKS TO PREPARE FOR SUMMER CONSTRUCTION OF ENHANCEMENTS TO MONTGOMERY WOODS STATE NATURAL RESERVE.

2009-10, HELPING MORE THAN 80,000 CHILDREN AND ADULTS VISIT REDWOOD PARKS AND BECOME INTERESTED IN CONSERVATION OF REDWOOD ECOSYSTEMS. GRANTS SUPPORTED CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS, PARK INTERPRETIVE ASSOCIATIONS AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION ORGANIZATIONS. THE SAVE THE REDWOODS LEAGUE EDUCATION PROGRAM PRODUCED THE REDWOODS TEACHER TOOL KIT, INCLUDING 10 NEW COLORFUL PUBLICATIONS ABOUT REDWOODS FOR FREE DISTRIBUTION IN PRINT AND ONLINE. THE LEAGUE DISTRIBUTED ALMOST 26,000 OF THESE PUBLICATIONS THIS YEAR.
