Runs flow for Hughes &Haddin Meet our new home spun Socceroo hero

TEST wicket keeper Brad Haddin tuned up for the upcoming Ashes series with a power laden 80 for Northern District against Sydney last Saturday in their Sydney first grade cricket local derby clash at Drummoyne Oval. Haddin 's cavalier haff cen-

tury off 95 balls and a magnificent century by opener Daniel Hughes (114) set the tone before the Rangers declared at 9-317 in the 92nd over. While the experienced Haddin was clouting four sixes and eight boundaries in vintage fashion, the talented Hughes blasted back to top form with a timely ton that featured 18 boundaries. The pair shared a third wicket partnership of 140 after English recruit Bret1 Hut1on and spinner Manjot Singh had removed Rangers' skipper Jonathon Whealing (0) and all rounder Scott Borthwick (1) with 33 runs on the board. Northern District keeper Andrew Harriot1 (46 not out) and team mate Matt Phillips (45) also made valuable contributions with the bat - adding 75 runs for the seventh wicket. NOTIINGHAMSHIRE all rounder Bret1 Hutton and hot shot Daniel Smith guided the Tigers to a third successive victory in the CSG Twenty20 Cup last Sunday at Drummoyne Oval. Hutton smashed 50 off 30 balls with Smith cracking 40 off 26 deliveries as Sydney (3-134) eclipsed the Whalers' total of 5-131. Earlier in the day, the talented Hutton top scored with 31 for Sydney (8-92) in their Poidevin-Gray Shield Twenty 20 loss to Mosman (8-99) to kick-off the Tigers' Back to Drummoyne Reunion celebrations. BREAKFAST Point's Alyssa Healy demonstrated her value with the bat as the NSW Breakers maintained their unbeaten record in the Womens National Cricket

League last weekend. The Sydney Tigers' international carved out a dashing 83 off 72 balls to help the Breakers post a 66 run bonus point victory over rivals Victoria Spirit in their 50 over match at Blacktown International Sportspark. NSW were in early trouble at 3-44 with Rachael Haynes (0), Leah Poulton (0) and Ellyse Perry (1 0) all dismissed before Healy and all rounder Erin Osbourne combined for a crucial 69 run fourth wicket stand. Osbourne (70) also added 48 for the eighth wicket with Kara Sutherland as NSW registered 9-273. Tigers' superstar Ellyse Perry (4-26) and Player of the Match Osborne (4-45) then ripped through Spirit's lineup to roll the Victorians for 207. It proved a big weekend for keeper Healy, who also took three sharp catches and hit 17 in the Breakers' seven

EAST Ryde's Alex Wilkinson is poised to realise a childhood dream after gaining selection in the Australian Socceroos squad for next Tuesday's international friendly against Costa Rica at Allianz Stadium. The experienced central defender is part of the 22-man squad named by new Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou, a just reward for his outstanding performances for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC in the K-League this season. Wilkinson, a former student at Ryde East Primary School and Epping Boys High, played under Postecoglou when he coached the U/17 Australian Joeys and U/20 Young Socceroos and is keen to grab this opportunity after being continuously overlooked for senior team honours. At the age of 29, Wilkinson is displaying the best form of his career in the Korean League for third placed Jeonbuk, who lost the recent FA Cup final to Pohang Steelers after a penalty shoot out. He produced another quality performance during Jeonbuk's 2-0 loss to leaders Ulsan Hyundai last weekend before jetting home to Australia to join the Socceroos in camp. Postecoglou rates the former Central Coast Mariners skipper highly and believes Wilkinson can bolster the Socceroos defence which has proved unsettled throughout the World Cup campaign. It has been an interesting football journey for the North Ryde junior product who made his A-League debut with the Mariners in 2005 after stints with Northern Spirit, Ryde City
