Message from THE HEAD OF SCHOOL AND BOARD CHAIR
Dear Savannah Country Day Community:
We are grateful to have you as part of our Hornet community. For generations, our school has been the beneficiary of thoughtful generosity and volunteer service. We acknowledge and recognize our supporters, since it’s through their dedication and philanthropy that we will maintain excellence for years to come.
We want to share with you our 2023-2024 Report on Philanthropy, which serves as our annual report. We are grateful that our community – including current families, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, faculty and staff – believes so strongly in our mission that they were willing to invest in The Savannah Country Day School.
We greatly appreciate the trust that has been placed in us, and we will continue to keep our students at the center of all that we do. If there is anything that would make your family’s experience a more positive one, please contact us.
With gratitude,

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO INCLUDE SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL IN YOUR WILL, AND WHAT IMPACT DO YOU HOPE THIS GIFT WILL HAVE ON THE SCHOOL AND FUTURE GENERATIONS OF STUDENTS?
The Country Day community has always separated itself from other schools and institutions. There are hundreds of selfless and generous families that came before us and we were motivated to continue that tradition in hopes that future families will do the same. We have three children at Country Day and hopefully they can experience this legacy every day at school and beyond as most of us have.
CAN YOU SHARE A SPECIFIC MEMORY OR EXPERIENCE AT SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL THAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO GIVE BACK IN THIS MEANINGFUL WAY?
It’s nearly impossible to pick one specific memory as the friendships I made, the lessons learned in the classroom, and the memories on the athletic fields all attributed to an experience that is second to none. However, one that does stand out might be the first memory I have from Country Day in 5th grade during PE. It was the first day of school and Coach Kirkley approached me and introduced himself as my Dad’s basketball coach from back in the late 70’s. Fast forward nearly 50 years and Coach Kirkley is coaching and keeping an eye on our 6-year-old son, Pace.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO OTHER ALUMNI AND FAMILIES CONSIDERING INCLUDING THE SCHOOL IN THEIR ESTATE PLANNING, AND HOW DO YOU BELIEVE SUCH CONTRIBUTIONS CAN SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY?
It is one of the easiest ways to offer support for everything the school and the community have provided to so many. It means Country Day may continue to connect past generations with future generations and thus highlight the large and longstanding community that makes SCDS such a great place.
Capital SUPPORT
Savannah Country Day’s capital projects have been the result of generous donors who believe in the School and want to secure its future. We recognize and thank the families and organizations who have supported these endeavors. Below is a list of donors making gifts between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO SUPPORT THE INVEST IN EXCELLENCE CAMPAIGN?
While children with learning challenges were being addressed, the program needed to expand its focus beyond just those students, starting at the firstgrade level. This broader approach can help reduce bullying, which often stems from a lack of understanding about what a learning-disabled child is experiencing. Learning disabilities are far more common than previously understood, and many individuals with these challenges are highly intelligent—they just reach their goals through different paths. By supporting the Invest in Excellence campaign, particularly the Learning Support program at Country Day, my hope is to provide the resources needed to address this significant issue.
HOW DO YOU BELIEVE YOUR SUPPORT CAN POSITIVELY IMPACT THE LIVES OF YOUR GRANDCHILDREN AND FUTURE GENERATIONS OF HORNETS?
Better understanding will equate to better outcomes and create a better learning experience for all students. Especially in the younger years of a child’s education.
WHAT ROLE DO YOU BELIEVE GRANDPARENTS CAN PLAY IN ENHANCING THE EDUCATION EXPERIENCE OF THEIR GRANDCHILDREN?
Grandparents, along with parents, can have a marked impact by truly understanding how their grandchild’s learning experience is progressing. It’s important for them to recognize that they can contribute not only through active involvement but also through financial support. By understanding and addressing the challenges that may be hindering their grandchild’s educational progress, they can help make the learning journey a more positive and enjoyable path toward the child’s future.

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR FAMILY TO SUPPORT THE INVEST IN EXCELLENCE CAMPAIGN, AND WHAT IMPACT DO YOU HOPE YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL HAVE ON THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY?
Our decision to support the Invest in Excellence campaign was driven by our deep appreciation for the exceptional experiences our children have had at the school. From the dedicated teachers to the engaging classes and the strong sense of community among families, we have seen firsthand how the school’s commitment to excellence shapes the lives of its students. By contributing to this campaign, we hope to ensure that the school continues to evolve, providing even greater opportunities for both current and future students to thrive academically, socially, and personally. Our hope is that our contribution will help sustain and enhance the programs and facilities that make Savannah Country Day School a place where students can truly excel.
HOW DO YOU ENVISION THE NEW FACILITIES ENHANCING THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR CURRENT AND FUTURE STUDENTS AT SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL?
We believe that the new facilities will significantly elevate the educational experience at Savannah Country Day School by offering state-of-the-art resources that cater to a diverse range of learning needs and styles. For students like our own who benefit from the Learning Support Center, these enhancements could mean more personalized and effective support, allowing them to reach their fullest potential. Additionally, the modernized spaces will foster an environment where creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking can flourish, ensuring that all students are well-prepared for the challenges of the future. We see these new facilities as a vital investment in the school’s ability to continue providing a top-tier education that adapts to the evolving needs of its students.
WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHER FAMILIES WHO ARE CONSIDERING MAKING A CONTRIBUTION TO THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN, AND WHY DO YOU BELIEVE THEIR SUPPORT IS IMPORTANT FOR THE FUTURE OF THE SCHOOL?
To other families considering a contribution, we would say that investing in this campaign is an investment in the future of our children and the broader school community. The positive experiences we’ve had—from the nurturing environment to the strong academic foundation—are a testament to the value of the school’s continuous growth and improvement. By supporting the capital campaign, you are helping to ensure that Savannah Country Day School remains a place where every child, regardless of their unique needs or interests, can find their path to success. Your contribution, no matter the size, will have a lasting impact on the quality of education and the strength of the community we all cherish.

ENDOWMENT
The endowment at Savannah Country Day consists of funds, both unrestricted and restricted, that supplement and support the exceptional educational experiences offered to current students and faculty. Endowment relieves pressure on tuition and ensures the School’s long-term strength and stability.
Endowments benefitting student financial aid make up the largest portion of the endowment-names funds. In addition, there are endowments that support academic programming, maintain our beautiful 65-acre campus, and provide impactful professional development opportunities for our faculty. The minimum amount to establish a named endowment fund is $100,000.
This listing reflects those who made a gift to our endowment between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU AND ALLAN REYNOLDS TO ESTABLISH THE LAMAR KIRKLEY TEACHING FELLOWSHIP ENDOWMENT FUND? HOW DID COACH KIRKLEY IMPACT YOUR TIME AT SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY AND YOUR LIFE BEYOND?
Allan and I felt it was time to honor Coach Kirkley for dedicating his entire career to the School—the only job he’s ever had. He taught countless life lessons, reminding us that the classroom in the gym is just as vital as any other classroom.
HOW HAS YOUR CONNECTION TO SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL AND THE RELATIONSHIPS YOU BUILT HERE INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO GIVE BACK?
As I mentioned in my Commencement address, this school profoundly changed the course of my life. I was fortunate to have had wonderful coaches and teachers who deeply impacted me. They cared about me and went out of their way to help me achieve my goals and aspirations.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE THE LAMAR KIRKLEY TEACHING FELLOWSHIP ENDOWMENT FUND WILL ACHIEVE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS OF STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS AT SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY?
I hope the Lamar Kirkley Teaching Fellowship Endowment Fund provides lasting resources to “coach up” and support future educators, just as Coach Kirkley impacted my life.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO CONVEY TO FELLOW ALUMNI ABOUT THE SIGNIFICANCE OF GIVING BACK AND SUPPORTING THE SCHOOL’S ENDOWMENT TO ENSURE ITS FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY AND LONG-TERM SUCCESS?
We didn’t achieve success on our own. If you’re in a position to give back, please do. As Winston Churchill wisely said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL FOR YOUR CHILDREN?
Our family relocated to Savannah last August. Our boys are 8 and 15 and lived all their lives in Long Island, New York. I was born and raised in Long Island, and my wife Niphaphorn, (Oum), is from Thailand. Needless to say, it was going to be a big change. Our real estate agent first suggested Savannah Country Day. Upon touring SCDS, we were sold. Although we did not tour during a school day, the facilities were impressive, and the kindness and hospitality shown to us by everyone were extremely gratifying. Also, we were assured that our sons would receive support not just in the classroom, but after class if needed. That is exactly what has happened.
AS A NEW PARENT, WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO SUPPORT THE FUND FOR COUNTRY DAY AND THE INVEST IN EXCELLENCE CAMPAIGN?
We just felt that SCDS had the full package: newer facilities, including a new STEM center; a beautiful campus; and kind people — it was the place for our sons. And a school in New York would be twice the price. Also, one of our sons needs a little extra help when it comes to academics. In order to help him and show our commitment to SCDS as new arrivals, supporting The Fund and the Invest in Excellence Campaign was the right thing to do.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF BEING A HORNET?
The best thing about being part of SCDS has been the people helping to educate our sons. Each of their teachers, coaches, and the administrative staff, down to the ground crew, have always made extra time for them and have responded to every inquiry. And, the Country Day families we have met thus far have welcomed us warmly into the SCDS community. Country Day is “The Full Package.” Go, Hornets!

Message from THE FUND FOR COUNTRY DAY CHAIRS
Dear Country Day Community,
As we reflect on last year’s Fund for Country Day campaign, we are filled with gratitude to have witnessed the incredible spirit of giving that defines the SCDS community. Thanks to your generosity, The Fund raised an impressive $741,000 and broke many benchmarks for giving. Most notably, just over 71% of parents contributed with a gift – 4% over the national average for independent school parent giving!
We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the 74 parent and alumni volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the year. Your commitment and personal outreach made these remarkable accomplishments possible, providing essential resources that directly benefit our students, support our exceptional faculty, and enhance our beautiful campus.
Thank you for your generosity and unwavering support of Country Day.

Message from the BOARD OF ALUMNI PRESIDENT
Dear Alumni:
This was my first year serving as Board of Alumni President. I am proud of our accomplishments and credit our extraordinary Alumni Association and Board of Alumni leadership.
Thanks to the generosity of our alumni community, we achieved a record-breaking 17% alumni giving participation in 2023-24—truly exemplary! Our March Madness alumni giving campaign again exceeded expectations, with 304 gifts totaling a groundbreaking $78,283. Special congratulations to the Class of 1968 on their victory, with a recordbreaking 78.1% of their class making a gift to The Fund, and to the Class of 1973 on their tremendous achievement, with 51.1% of their classmates participating. Your outstanding participation rates have made a significant impact, and we are deeply grateful for your continued support.
We continued our efforts to strengthen our community and foster connections nationwide. Alongside local events in Savannah, alumni gathered in Chicago, Dallas, Austin, and Houston. We are grateful to the many loyal Hornets who recognized the importance of maintaining ties with the school and each other at these regional gatherings.
I am sincerely grateful to the alumni volunteers and the entire alumni family for their generosity and commitment to our alma mater. Together, we are making a lasting impact on our students’ lives and the future of our school.
Sincerely,
Stefanie

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU, AS AN ALUMNA, TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING THE SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL?
My ongoing support for SCDS is driven by both my faith and a deep commitment to investing in the next generation. The school’s long-standing excellence in education and student preparation makes it truly deserving of our alumni community’s support. I also value the various avenues available to contribute, such as Apogee, The Legacy Society, and The Fund for Country Day, all of which are facilitated by a dedicated staff. I’m particularly proud of the Class of ’68 for winning the 2024 March Madness with minimal prompting—it was a joy to reconnect with so many from Country Day. The passing of our beloved class leader, Judy Reagan Huckaby, certainly played a role in our strong participation.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES FROM YOUR TIME AT SCDS?
One of my cherished memories at SCDS is seeing Dorothy Jenkins’s smile as she stepped forward during the awards assembly to receive the dedication of the ’68 Country Data. She was a remarkable woman, known for being both strict and tender-hearted, always watching over us with care. We were truly blessed to know and honor her.
WHAT CHANGES AT SCDS HAVE IMPRESSED YOU THE MOST?
The changes at SCDS since my student years are astounding. The campus has expanded significantly, with new curricular and extracurricular offerings, and the growth in the student body, faculty, and staff is remarkable. What impresses me most is the broad range of opportunities for students to develop their skills and prepare for the future, both on and off campus. The dedication of the faculty and administrators to this mission is commendable, as is the school’s significant shift towards greater diversity and inclusiveness.

“
We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated SCDS volunteers. Your time, energy, and commitment have a lasting impact on our school, enhancing the experience for our students and fostering a strong sense of community and collaboration.”
LYNETTE ALLISON DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
Impact of SCDS VOLUNTEERS
Each year, the Parents’ Association raises money through the Christine Hall Photography student portrait sale. During the 2023-24 school year, those proceeds helped fund new cafeteria tables for our students and faculty.
PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION
The mission of the PA is to coordinate the parent volunteer programs in the Little, Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools, to sponsor fundraising events that will generate funds for the enrichment of all Country Day students, as well as develop a closer relationship between the parents and the school. Membership includes all parents or guardians of students attending SCDS.

IS YOUR NAME MISSING?
The Report on Philanthropy contains names of individuals who have made gifts to The Savannah Country Day School that were processed through the Office of Advancement between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. There could be several reasons that your name does not appear in what you believe to be the appropriate giving level—or does not appear at all:
You made your gift either before July 1, 2023, or after June 30, 2024.
You gave more during this period than you realize; your name may be in the next giving level.
You made a pledge instead of an outright gift. If you made a pledge between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, but chose to begin fulfilling it after June 30, 2024, your name will not appear in this honor roll, which reflects only gifts received.
If we omitted your name in error or if you have questions or concerns, please contact Ann Lerch, Director of Annual Giving, at 912-961-8822 or alerch@savcds.org.
Thank you, Thank you,
FACULTY, COACHES, FAMILIES, ALUMNI,
for instilling a love of learning in our students; for promoting a tradition of excellence, both on and off the field; for your partnership and steadfast support; and for preserving and enhancing the Hornet spirit.
The contribution of every person in our Hornet community makes an impact on our most important asset — our students.
