Winding Road
More than 300 students received their diplomas on December 18 during winter commencement in Iles P.E. Center. This was the fourth consecutive year Southern has seen a record number of graduates at the mid-year ceremony. Michael Gee smiles while thinking about the path that brought him here—including the year spent in Nicaragua as a student missionary. That time abroad impacted him greatly, and upon returning home he changed his major to religious studies. Gee is currently Bible work coordinator for the Dalton Seventh-day Adventist Church in Georgia. Spring commencement was held May 3 in the Chattanooga Convention Center as 440 additional students, including the university’s first doctoral graduates, received their degrees from Southern.
