a sparrows sonnet Melissa Faifer
I
am
a golden eagle, but
They I
call
me Madam
by name
Sparrow, bird of grace.
my heart, pretending to be tame, my inherent sin become disgrace.
hide
Lest
My sparrow's eye is trained to seek out seeds, My feathers are a frame that must fill.
I
Around hop, obscuring my misdeeds, And weaving secret lies with expert skill. I
Yet eagle instinct longs to feed on
flesh,
So I my brother strike With steely talons others I enmesh, Then bid them blame the guiltless owl instead. My fellow birds have fallen for my bait. and leave for dead.
But He who knows
my heart
I
can't escape.
