The entire stretch was then mapped to study the nature of the urban fabric and also the details of activities going on in the place. The building use map indicated that it is predominantly a residential settlement. Mixed use typology resulted because of the potential source of rent from commercial usage. The building heights map showed that all units are generally G and G+1 structures. There are a very few G+4 apartments towards the north. Traffic study showed that the stretch has moderate traffic and it can move at 40Km/h speed max. The density is also moderate, but chocking is a result of haphazard parking and driving on the street. The movememt pattern of vehicles and pedestrians are quiet simple and easy to manage. There is no complication of major junctions and criss cross movement. Overall the site is a small neighborhood street 05 The commercial stretch being the busiest patch and is bifurcated by the canal in the middle, of the stretch also has street vending where this causes the neighborhood to split. small vendors sell vegetables and fruits. Towards Farms
The Ghodasar canal road is a small neighborTowards Narol Gam hood road in the south-east part of Ahmendabad city. The road carries the Narmada irrigation canal to the farmlands to the south. To the west is Shanbaug society and the Chandola lake, to the east is Hari Om nagar, to the north is the Guruji flyover and to the south is the Narol-Naroda highway. The road basically links the outer and the inner arterial roads. This also gives the road a bifurcating nature between the neighborhoods. The activites linked Towards Naroda to the road are all dependant on the neighborhood. There is no major node or trigger point Road in the stretch, rendering it a simple neighborwith Canal hood street that faces the typical issues of at the haphazard parking and movement of vehicles and centre pedestrians.

Concept and Idea
Parking on the edge encroaches into the road and this blocks the road at peak hours causing conjestion.
The main concern is to make the space much mmore lively and usable by the public. The following points are key to drive towards design. • The width of the road- From the traffic calculated the driveway can be 7m on each side. This is two lanes of 3.5m • Pedestrian- At any point in the site the pedestrian walkway Not only is the canal neglected One of the main objective is to is maintained at 2m and in the least possible areas it is but it is abused to the extent unwrap the canal and connect 1.5m. that people use the cnal instead to the edges thus bringing the • Parking- Ample parking facilities to be provided of the dustbin. neighborhood together. • Activity- The existing site activity to be complimented and the plazas ro becreated above the canal at 4 nodes will bear a few activities in itself. • Creative aspect- One lane of 3.5m towards the canal can be made into a flexible stretch that will change its use based
Objectives
1. Pedestrian righ tof way should be developed and they must be connected through and through without hindrance.
The edge of canal and the road has to be beautified in a way that they are pleasing to the commuters.
And finally, integrating all these, the canal and the edge must be developed to live and enjoy.
To develop the street as a neighborhood street that will cater to the residents of the place, in a way that they can use the space for their daily recreational and living needs.
2.
To develop the stretch in a way that the commuters passing through the street will get a good visual treat of the place. The aesthetics of the place is enhanced and the canal is opened out

Food joint
The first stretch is the Narol-Naroda road junction that is active with all the food vending activities. The edges are linked and table top is proposed for a seamless traffic movement as well as pedestrian movement. The canal is covered to a lenght of 20 meter, vending and recreational activities are provided here for the people to relax. The canal is opened up and decks are given at the edges to experience the flowing waters. The next stretch is the amul parlour, where ther is an existing amul parlor located. It is retained and the entire plaza is developed to induce more activity and to connect the edges with Amul as the key element. Further north, vehicular crossing is given. Here the edges are beautified with ornamental pillars and greenery. The scenic view of the road when driving through the road is enhanced for the commuters. Hence the design tries to solve the issue while giving an aesthetically appealing stretch.
