Swab Squad launched

This week, SaTH launched its new ‘Swab Squad’.

The squad is made up of a small team of Heath Care Assistants redeployed from Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital who have been working on wards at RSH, with a view to rolling out to PRH by next week. The role of the squad is to reduce the burden on colleagues by carrying out COVID19 swabs for our Medically Fit Complex patients, to help improve flow by ensuring there are no delays in discharge for these patients, due to having an out-of-date COVID-19 test result. Dr Arne Rose, Medical Director, said: “I would like to thank all the teams involved in developing this new process which will help to ensure that swabs are taken in a timely manner, and our patients are not delayed from going home on the day of being made medically fit for transfer.” The new squad launched on Monday and is already starting to make a difference. The team has been very proactive in developing this initiative through their learning, to ensure the service is as efficient as it can be. It will be further developed next week - and rolled out to seven-days-a-week, and at PRH, as more staff become available. Ward colleagues at RSH who need to contact the Swab Squad, should call ext 3732.
