No. 1 Anniversary Special
EDITOR’S NOTE Welcome to the first issue of CRATE, a quarterly zine by Satchmi in celebration of the physical store’s recently-concluded fourth year anniversary. This is a more personal approach to things we are obsessed about or would recommend. This is a statement to everyone who says that publication (of any kind) is dying. Because isn’t that what they said about vinyl a long time ago? But look where it is now. CRATE is a gleeful provocation of what Satchmi aims to continue—a culture of creativity, music, and inspiration in pages that you will find on the web. Now you ask, why is this a digital zine if we support the “analog revolution?” There is a thin divide between the two that it guarantees confusion. But we always look back to the shared goal in this industry, and that’s to share everything good about the scene, no matter the means. In this pilot issue, get to know the roots of Satchmi in illustrations (p. 6), and the stories we have experienced through those punchy, red doors (p. 12). Also, enjoy a small thank you coupon for downloading the first issue (p. 17). More than a quick nostalgic retrospective of the store, Satchmi hopes to move forward and forge ahead with our vision. We hope this quarterly zine will be part of what lies ahead. And we hope that you will continue to support us, just as you have in the last four years. R.E.M.

SATCHMI STREAMS He’s probably my favorite artist of the quarter. This track is a friend that will keep your mind at bay with the strings, slow tempos that speed up in the middle, and a well-rounded orchestration. Listen to this (and the rest of his songs) when you’re happy/sad/bored/hungry.
The song makes me feel like I’m in an underground stripclub with demon stripper girls, I love it.
The riffs are so catchy and the off timing part is totally different. My new inspiration for new music I’m creating.

Jordan Cardy’s branding is spectacular. He makes his own clothes, he’s English, and has great music that is reminiscent of Beastie Boys and The Streets. Total package.

SATCHMI EXPERIMENT
Ingredients:
30g beans (satchmi blend) 300ml water (cold water) 20ml lemon juice 20 pcs mint leaves 20 ml sugar syrup
Directions: 1 Put water and ground beans in a container/tumbler 2 Refrigerate for 12 hours 3 Filter it with paper filters or cheese cloth to make cold brew *or if you don’t wanna wait or you ain’t got no time, you could always get our ready made cold brews available in Satchmi 4 Mix in 20ml lemon juice 5 Roll the mint leaves, chop, and mix into the drink 6 Add 20ml sugar syrup 7 Pour into a shaker, put ice, and shake 8 Filter the drink into a glass. Add a slice of lemon for a nice touch
