This past fall marked our 36th anniversary! While our products have changed over the years, the essence of our company mission remains the same: to provide product that's a good value, is safe for our children, has terrific eye-appeal and inspires learning and creativity. Of course, great product isn't meaningful without stellar customer service. We try our best to provide great customer service each and every day.
SAFETY
Our products are tested by certified labs under the Consumer Products Safety Initiative Act to ensure that they comply with all national regulations including ASTM F963-11 and California Proposition 65 laws governing toxins, phthalates and the mechanical safety of the products we market to kids. Many of our inks and paints used in silkscreening and printing are also vegetable-based, meeting the WEEE and RoHS standards set forth by China in 2007. Certificates of Conformity are available upon request.
GREEN INITIATIVES `
Sassafras is committed to marketing products that are produced in an environmentally-sound manner and conducting our operations to minimize our carbon footprint. In many cases, we use packaging that can be reused to store our product once bought by the consumer. We are using paper that is either recycled or recyclable and have minimized our use of paper. We have also joined the "reuse the box" initiative to ship our product, when possible, in used boxes that are in good condition. In our office, we have converted to energy-efficient, compact florescent light bulbs and set our thermostats at a comfortable 68-70 degrees. We strongly believe that by taking collective action to reduce our carbon footprint, that we can make a major impact on the betterment of the world. Ingredients canola oil or butter for mold 1/2 cup (100 g) sugar 1/4 cup (55 g) butter 1 egg 1 teaspoon (5 mL) vanilla extract 3/4 cup (95 g) all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon (4 g) baking powder 1/4 cup (60 mL) milk
Directions Preheat oven to 350º F (177º C, Gas 4). Oil the inside of the silicone mold with canola oil or soft butter, taking care to use extra oil or butter in the deeper crevices, such as the feet. Put the cow mold on a sturdy cookie sheet or jelly roll pan. In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Stir in the egg, then stir in the vanilla. In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder, add to the creamed mixture and mix thoroughly. Finally, stir in the milk until batter is smooth. Pour or spoon batter into the prepared mold until about 3/4 full. Bake cake 35 minutes. You will know the cake is done when top is springy to the touch, and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely in the silicone before removing and decorating.* Add frosting and sprinkles and enjoy! *At this time you may want to bake a second cake or save the batter for later.
