Introduction

7

Our History Gymboree Corporation designs, manufactures, and retails high-quality apparel and accessories for children from birth through seven years of age. The new Gymboree fosters childhood development and physical activity through playtime. Gymboree grows healthy minds and bodies through physical, social, and educational development. Our Future Gymboree would be a good candidate for this expansion because they were one of the original children’s clothing stores that not only had successful clothes but offered a learning environment for children. I think this two in one experience could still be very successful today. Gymboree could take the foundation of who they were and grow from a gym/retail company by focusing on playtime as the epicenter. They could do this by utilizing physical activity to foster social, educational and physical growth to support the overall well-being of kids. About This Book This book focuses on the logo standards so that it can properly be recreated in any situation. It includes a visual system which discusses color and typefaces. The book closes out with a brand projection chart which sums up various ideas on how the brand may expand in the future. Nine of these extensions are showcased in Gymboree’s new website.

Logo History

11

1976

Now

The old Gymboree logo embodies a bright and creative visual identity, which is composed of a wordmark and an emblem on its left. All capital letters of the wordmark are written in a custom typeface with bold lines and rounded angles. Letter “R” of the nameplate is the most interesting element, due to the curved line of its right bar. The Gymboree emblem is composed of a rectangle, divided into two squares with two contrasting circles inside. The left part features a thin orange framing with a solid orange circle, containing white letters of “Play”, while the right square is colored orange and has a white circle with orange “Music” inside. The orange ampersand is placed into a smaller white circle. The orange and white color palette is playful and successfully represents a children’s brand.

12

This new logo embodies the playful side of Gymboree by utilizing building blocks as the foundation of the letter “G”. The name of the brand is placed below the “G” in the typeface Tondo, a friendly sans serif font, with rounded edges. The typeface has rounded corners like the shapes in the logo to be more kid-friendly. The color palette is warm and subtle. The half circle shape from the x-height in the “G” is placed into the counter of the letter “e” in Gymboree so that the brand name and logo are cohesive. The concept of the “G” is made out of three pieces. Each piece represents parts of the Gymboree brand. These pieces include education, social skills and physical activity. All three play an important role in fostering childhood development which is facilitated through playtime.

Logos are often the first touch point consumers have with your brand, making them the face of your brand. Creating a logo that is impressionable and long-lasting not only creates equity with your brand, but also helps to develop trust between your brand and your consumers. To ensure the logo maintains consistency, make sure you know what not to do.

Gymboree Learning Pad Gymboree would sell a learning pad that helps engage kids in core subjects and lifelong skills. This learning pad would only connect to the Gymboree Learning App and comes with handheld objects, such as shapes, a drawing board, numbers and puzzle pieces so that your child can use real objects to interact with the digital world shown on their pad. The screen would sit in front of them and then they would have the play pieces in front of the screen so that they can follow along with the instructor. Brand Focus Gymboree learning pad reinforces our mission of fostering childhood development and physical activity through playtime by providing a tablet that helps to engage children in core subjects and lifelong skills.
