Museum Insel | Study on density changes

1940

2015

This analysis wants to study the main changes of the city structure through the history of the last century. We have chosen three important historical dates that helped us to show the impact of the second world war on the city, but also its capability of regenerating itself. We focused then on the project area, and more in general on the Museum Insel to better see how the character of the site has changed in time. The area was much denser than it is nowadays, and it presents now less dense but higher buildings as well as open spaces. Finally, we noticed how the shape of many blocks of the urban structure seem to be the same of the one before the war, but they present a considerable change in density. In fact, they shape the city in the same way of before while they have changed their own structure.

Structure of the built area

With the black and white plan, we tried to underline the different urban structures that coexist in the city of Berlin. We can immediately recognize the several levels of density, and also understand the character of the project site in order to proceed with our project. Structure of the spaces
